[mou-net] Varied Thrush still present in Duluth
Hi everyone, I heard from the homeowner at 5554 Howard Gnesen Road that the Varied Thrush, first reported on November 27, was seen again this morning after their return from a 9-day trip. The bird hadn't been present during the days before their departure so the new sighting comes as an unexpected surprise. The homeowner still welcomes visitors although the bird (so far) might not be coming to the feeders as frequently as before. fyi, and Happy New Year! [mou-net] golden-crowned sparrow (duluth)
Duluth's golden-crowned sparrow was seen twice yesterday: once in the morning, then again at around 3:30 p.m. I scattered seed on our deck last night and have seen the bird again today between 12 and 12:30 p.m. This is the first that I have seen the bird on consecutive days since December. I wasn't quick enough to get to my camera yesterday, but was able to fire off a shot (through glass) when I saw the gcsp over lunch today. [mou-net] Golden-crowned sparrow (Duluth)
The immature golden-crowned sparrow was seen at our feeders in Duluth from 7:15 to 7:45 this morning. It is the first time that I have seen the bird since January 19. It is snowing this morning, as it has been on almost all of the days that this bird has appeared here. Brad Snelling 21 E. [mou-net] correction - golden-crowned sparrow (duluth)
I was mistaken, in my previous message, about the last sighting of the gc sparrow. It was actually seen last on January 29 rather than on the 19th. So, about a 4 week interval between appearances. [mou-net] Golden crowned sparrow (Duluth)
The immature golden crowned sparrow made one of its infrequent visits to our feeder this morning at around 7:45. It was the first sighting of the bird since January 19. It's occurred to me that most of this bird's appearances have been on mornings when it has snowed or is snowing. I wonder what, if anything, you would make of that? Regards, Brad Snelling 21 E. [mou-net] Update - Golden crowned sparrow - Duluth
The immature golden crowned sparrow made a brief appearance in our yard just before 8:00 this morning. It perched in a tree near our patio (on the alley) before flying in the direction of College St. For what it's worth, the bird was fairly vocal when it was in the yard on Saturday morning, sounding its call note every 5 or 10 seconds. [mou] Green Heron - Duluth
I found a Green Heron working its way around the pond at the Bagley Nature Area (UMD) this afternoon at around 4:00 p.m. I had read some time ago that this might be a good place to spot this species, but this was the first luck that I have had after quite a few visits there.
