[mou-net] looking for tips on the Upper Red River valley
I'm making a little road trip from Duluth to Grand Forks and up to the Canadian border. I was hoping there might be some folks that could give me a few clues on hot spots around Crookston, Grand Forks, and anywhere north along I-29 or the Red River. Thanks in advance. [mou-net] Bonaparte's Gulls Duluth
Around noon today I saw a flock of hundreds of bonaparte's gulls on the St. Louis river by the Hwy 23 bridge. Also saw FOY black and white and blackburnian warblers at grassy point. [mou-net] Brown Thrasher
I saw a pair of brown thrashers while out looking today. Its a wonder I saw anything. Once the fog cleared there was about a half hour of clear skies then the wind started howling at 20-30 mph. I also saw what I suspect was a gray catbird but the wind prevented a very good look. Is a catbird a reasonable sighting for this time of the year in Duluth? [mou-net] Sick redpolls in Duluth
I'm sad to say I've also seen a few sick redpolls. For the last week there's been a flock of about 30 birds hanging around my feeders. In the morning there was a sick one on the ground and it was dead by the afternoon. Its time to take the feeders in and get them cleaned. [mou-net] Red-Winged black birds in Kanebec Co.
The flight northward continues. I saw a number of red-wings along Hwy 107 in Northern Kanebec county and southward into Isanti and Anoka counties as well. I traveled south from Duluth this morning and didn't see any in Carlton, or Pine county yet. -- Joshua Bailly Research Coordinator for Prairie Biofuel/Wildlife Research Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve 2660 Fawn Lake Dr. N.E. [mou-net] looking for owls
I've been hearing some Great Horned Owls around the property and would love to find the nest and keep an eye on it as the chicks develop. I've narrowed down a general area based on hearing calls from a few different nights. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding a nest? I though maybe the first calls of the night might come from near the nest. Any input would be appreciated? -- Joshua Bailly Research Coordinator for Prairie Biofuel/Wildlife Research Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve 2660 Fawn Lake Dr. N.E. [mou-net] looking for banding opportunities
Greeting All, I'm very interested in getting some mist netting and banding experience this spring. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm at home in Duluth every weekend but otherwise I work at Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (10 mi South of Cambridge) during the week. I would be happy to volunteer my time near either place. -- Joshua Bailly Research Coordinator for Prairie Biofuel/Wildlife Research Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve 2660 Fawn Lake Dr. N.E.
