[mou-net] Eurasian Collared Dove in Owatonna
I've heard soft cooing all summer in our spruce grove, (not mourning dove) and today, saw a collared dove fly up when I approached the garden. I assume they have been breeding here in Owatonna? [mou-net] Yellow Billed Cuckoo Stearns Co.
A calling yellow billed cuckoo was also seen at Long Lake, Stearns County (next to Big Fish Lake at the end of Big Fish Lake Road) yesterday at 11 am. The bird called, flew into onto a dead branch and was clearly seen for about three minutes before flying away. Same tree where a yellow billed cuckoo was seen last year. [mou-net] Trumpeter Pair on Long Lake, Stearns Co., MN
A pair of trumpeter swans flew into Long Lake 7 mi north of Cold Spring on Wednesday, trumpeting all the way, and are still here. This may be the first time trumpeters have been seen on Long Lake in years. Maybe they'll stay? The eagles on same lake are keeping quiet and close to the nest. [mou-net] Yellow Billed Cuckoo Stearns County
Heard and saw a Yellow Billed Cuckoo in the area of Big Fish Lake in Stearns County. Followed it through the tree tops during a downpour, truly earning its nickname. Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html

[mou-net] Newbie Report Owatonna
Hi all I'm a lifelong bird geek who took ornithology centuries ago in college, but not a real birder by any means. I just finished a biography of Roger Tory Peterson and decided to get back in the game, so I dug out my old binocs and field guides. I filled the sunflower seed feeders and just put up an old oriole orange/jam feeder over the noon hour and had a small flock of Baltimore orioles of both sexes converge on it within minutes. A Tennessee Warbler decided to get in on the act as well. A few minutes later, two male Indigo Buntings landed under the seed feeders! In the space of one hour, I had a female Rose Breasted Grosbeak, three Cardinals, Goldfinches, Grackles, Chipping and White Throated Sparrows. I'm hooked again.
