On Saturday Jan 9th I flushed a lone Spruce Grouse from Hwy 1 at mile marker 303 aprox 18 miles south of Ely. Later that morning a found a Northern Hawk Owl on the Whyte rd .5 mile east of the junction with Stoney River Forest rd. I found no Great Gray Owls. Observed a male Spruce Grouse on the Echo Trail (#116) northwest of Ely in St Louis County on Saturday 11/17. It was just east of the boat landing turnoff to Big Lake. Saw an adult male Spruce Grouse and an adult female Black-backed Woodpecker on the Asrid Lake hiking trail about ½ mile south of the Echo Trail (#116) in northern St Louis Co on Sunday May 23rd. The hiking trail is located about 14 miles east of the western end of the Echo Trail near Lake Jeanette.
