This is the Duluth Birding Report for January 15th, 2016 sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The immature IVORY GULL that had not been since the 9th at Canal Park in
Duluth was relocated by Larry and Jan Kraemer on the 15th at Canal Park.
Few gulls of any kind had been seen here in recent days; although,
ICELAND GULLS, THAYER'S GULLS, GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL, and GLAUCOUS
GULLS are all assumed to still be in the Duluth/ Superior area. A
GREATER SCAUP was still present at Canal Park on the 10th.

The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW at 44th Avenue East and Regent Street in the
Lakeside neighborhood of Duluth was last reported on the 9th, but it is
likely still present. Birders are welcome to look for the bird but the
homeowner asks observers to stay on the sidewalk and not venture into
his yard. Terry Wiens saw a NORTHERN FLICKER on the 8th near Enger Tower
in Duluth.

Dave and Lars Benson saw a SURF SCOTER on the 8th at Paradise Beach east
of Grand Marais, and many LONG-TAILED DUCKS in and around Grand Marais.
They also saw a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE on the 8th at Good Harbor Bay west
of Grand Marais. Joe Jungers saw four RED-NECKED GREBES and seven
LONG-TAILED DUCKS on the 8th at Stoney Point.

The dark gray/intermediate morph juvenile GYRFALCON near the Peavey
elevator and Connor's Point off US Highway 53 in Superior was reported
as recently as the 13th.

The next scheduled update of this report will be on Thursday, January
21st.
