[mou-net] Hooded warbler, Lebanon hills
Had a nice warbler wave in Lebanon Hills regional park (Eagan). West of pilot knob road, it was just 5 warbler species, but three of them were Canada, mourning, and (female) hooded. I know hooded warblers used to be seen with some regularity on the east portion of the park, but the last time I saw one here was about 8 or 9 years ago. For what it's worth, this one seemed to be moving on, but if interested it was in a brushy area downhill from where the hiking trail splits from the horse trail, and near where they cross paths again; brushy patch on the right, grassy field on the left. Blue wingeds are here too, on territory. Kyle Te Poel Stillwater township Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
[mou-net] Hooded Warbler, Lebanon Hills update
I met up with Curt Rawn this morning by chance and with my daughter we set out to find the Hooded Warbler in Lebanon Hills Regional Park. I had tried yesterday on the trail that leads to Portage Lake from Shulze Lake without success and we did not find it there again today but then we heard an unfamiliar call at trail marker #45. It turned out to be a beautiful male Hooded Warbler that gave us great views for several minutes. It was singing loudly and continued to sing past 11:00am. We also found a Pileated Woodpecker and I heard Eastern Towhee, and Red-eyed Vireo along with many flycatchers. Please do not use playback for this warbler as it has a potential to breed with the female that is in the area and it is of course quite rare in Minnesota. The use of playback is banned in some areas of Southeast Arizona because it was disrupting some of the range limited species when they were on their breeding territories. [mou-net] Hooded Warbler, Lebanon Hills regional Park
I had my Field Ornithology class out this morning (Monday) at the Lebanon Hills Regional Park Visitors Center in Eagan (off of Cliff Road) where we came upon a very loud male Hooded Warbler sitting over the hiking trail. The spot we found him at is along the trail on the south side of Schultz Lake. We saw him about 11:00 am. Right below the Hooded Warbler was a very cooperative Eastern Towhee.
