[mou-net] Red Knot, McLeod County

2023-05-25 Thread Doug Kieser
Currently looking at a beautiful Red Knot in McLeod County in a flooded
field on 130th St. between Glencoe and Biscay. Many other shorebirds
around including both Marbled and Hudsonian Godwits. If you chase and
don't find it, check the fields at the intersection of Jade and County 3.

[mou-net] Red Knot, Grant County (North Ottawa impoundment)

2020-09-07 Thread Doug Kieser
Hi,

Early this evening I observed a Red Knot from the viewing platform on 260th
St at the North Ottawa impoundment. It was with a Black-bellied Plover
still in nearly full breeding plumage, 2 American Golden-plovers and 2
Sanderlings. This small flock disappeared while I was retrieving my
digiscoping camera from my car and I was unable to refind the Red Knot in a
short search from the perimeter roads - I did not hike down any of the
interior roads.

[mou-net] Red Knot in Stearns Co. (Albany sewage ponds)

2018-08-23 Thread Chu, Philip
Of some interest - actually, of *much* interest to me as a Stearns Co. guy -
was a juvenile Red Knot at the Albany sewage ponds. The knot was present when
I arrived at the ponds (4:40 PM) and was still present when I left (7:25 PM).
It was in the triangular (southeasternmost) pond, sometimes on the pond's west
side and sometimes on its north side.

Re: [mou-net] Red Knot - Albany WTP

2017-09-05 Thread Chu, Philip
Over the lunch hour, I ran out to Albany – spent about an hour scoping the rock
riprap along the pond margins, but had no luck.

I’m not sure how much this means. Around here right now there’s a stiff wind
out of the NW (varying from 15 to 25 mph), which makes longer-distance scope
viewing difficult, so if the bird was on the opposite side of the big lagoon
from me I could have easily missed it, what with my scope bouncing around in
the breeze. Also, the Albany sewage-pond complex has two ponds that you can’t
see from the road, so if the bird decided to spend some time at one of those
ponds

Re: [mou-net] Red Knot sighting GPS coordinates

2016-08-11 Thread Jim & Charlene Nelson
the shelter building is probably at the intersection where 330 Ave used to be.
the north border of the impoundment is 260th St and the south border is 240th
St. the west border is the county line with Traverse Co and is 340 Ave.

today because of the saturated roads I took Grant County 1 west to Grant County
42 or 300th Ave north to 260th St. it is a large campus.

the Red Knot that is being seen is actually red - not in winter coat - and was
just where John Richardson found it 24 hours ago in the area looking south from
260th St just east of the shelter building at 330th Ave. because of its color
and the bright sunshine this morning and calm water, the bird and its
reflection were easy to find.

I hope this helps? if not reply and I'll try again.

This appears to be a 2nd county record.

[mou-net] Red Knot ~ Hennepin County

I observed a breeding adult Red Knot early this morning out from the Old Cedar

When I came out the parking lot was filled with major construction equipment

find a place to park if you can get in.

I tuned into to this program when it was broadcast last year. It's a
compelling story, vital to the Red Knot, the Horseshoe Crab, and to Humans.
Please watch Channel 2 tonight and then act; let your Congressional
delegation know that this issue is important to you and that you want them
to make laws to protect habitat and preserve these species. With so many
demands for tax dollars for different "critical" causes, it's important
that we birders make our voices heard. We are one of the largest special
interest groups and do have considerable clout. Time is short. Please
speak out on this issue.

Kind regards,
