[mou-net] Ruff update, Cerulean Warbler, etc. (Hennepin Co.)
The Ruff was last seen early this morning (~7:30am) at Long Meadow Lake/Bass Ponds (part of the Minnesota River Valley NWR) in Bloomington. I--along with at least three other parties--tried later in the day for the bird, but to my knowledge no one has seen it. There are plenty of places where a shorebird would be out of sight, so it could still be around. The only other birds of note that Dan Phillips and I found at Long Meadow Lake were the previously reported Greater White-fronted Geese (2), a Harris's Sparrow, and a female Eastern Towhee. Another birder saw a Caspian Tern. I have another report of a Cerulean Warbler that was heard singing at Westwood Hills Nature Center (St. Louis Park) yesterday. It was on/along the highest hill in the Basswood/Maple trail. We hope to try for it tomorrow and will report if we have luck. Good birding! Alyssa DeRubeis temporarily in Golden Valley, Hennepin Co. [mou-net] Ruff update
The Ruff is now being easily seen at a different location. It is in the area where it was originally seen on Saturday. Come down the hill, go straight to the tee and turn left. There is a beaten path to your right before you reach the wooden bridge. Take that out to the edge of Long Meadow Lake. [mou-net] Ruff update
The ruff was easily visible from the Hogback Outlet looking straight across just a little while ago. [mou-net] Ruff Update
As I was walking down the trail at the Bass Ponds to see the Ruff at about 3:30 every person walking up the hill had seen the bird. Just before I got there the Ruff and other shorebirds were flushed by an airplane and relocated at various locations. I stood with many other birders for over an hour and could not relocate the Ruff. It was definitely not a total loss because there were hundreds of other shorebirds including: 100's of Lesser Yellowlegs and Pectoral Sandpipers; dozens of Greater Yellowlegs; at least 10 Long-billed Dowitcher; 2 Semipalmated Plover; at least 6 Dunlin; 1 Wilson's Phalarope Good Birding, Jason Caddy Minneapolis Join or Leave mou-net: http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives: http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
