Re: [mou-net] Slaty-backed Gull Update Please

2010-12-23 Thread Bill Penning
I spent all day Monday looking for it w/o success. Several trips between the
Superior landfill, Wi Point and Canal Park failed to find it. However, the
lake side froze over Sunday night and many of the gulls were roosting a mile
or more out from Canal Park on the ice. By late afternoon the ice was
breaking up but the gulls did not come in from the lake.

There were however, several hundred gulls at the landfill all day. We saw:
Thayers, Iceland, Glaucous, and Great Black-backed.

My sister and I were in Duluth yesterday and saw the Slaty-backed gull at
Canal Park at about 10:45am, along with a 1st winter and 2nd winter Great
Black-backed gull and a couple of Glaucous gulls.

I am going to try for the Slaty-backed Gull this weekend but have not seen
any recent postings. If anyone knows where the gull has been lately or knows
the best area to check please post the information. I will certainly check
the break wall at Park Point and probably the Superior landfill which are
usually the best spots but any sort of update on gull activity in the Duluth
area would be greatly appreciated.
