We finally have a little snow in the northwest, and cooling temperatures,
but still pleasant. Roads , however, are a mixed bag. Some well-travelled
ones are bare and dry, but most , especially the secondary roads are very
icy or covered by packed snow. Birds are busy at the feeders and there are
reports of several species that normally would be far south by now.
>From Lake of the Woods County, Gretchen Mehmel reported that a NORTHERN HAWK
OWL was found on the Roosevelt Road two miles north of the Norris fire
tower this week, and a GREAT GRAY OWL was seen 3 miles north of the Faunce
tower. At the feeders at Norris Camp were GRAY JAYS, RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES, COMMON REDPOLLS, and PINE GROSBEAKS.
