That would be the Bemidji CBC held on December 19.

This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Saturday, December 26,
2015 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You may
also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

We finally have a little snow in the northwest, and cooling temperatures,
but still pleasant. Roads , however, are a mixed bag. Some well-travelled
ones are bare and dry, but most , especially the secondary roads are very
icy or covered by packed snow. Birds are busy at the feeders and there are
reports of several species that normally would be far south by now.

>From Lake of the Woods County, Gretchen Mehmel reported that a NORTHERN HAWK
OWL was found on the Roosevelt Road two miles north of the Norris fire
tower this week, and a GREAT GRAY OWL was seen 3 miles north of the Faunce
tower. At the feeders at Norris Camp were GRAY JAYS, RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCHES, COMMON REDPOLLS, and PINE GROSBEAKS.

Beth Siverhus had a young COOPER'S HAWK visiting her yard in Warroad on
December 23. Several flocks of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen in Roseau County
this week.

Doug Johnson reported on the Beltrami CBC held on December 19 where two
RING-NECKED DUCKS, 19 BALD EAGLES, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK , and an AMERICAN
KESTREL were among the species seen.

The Agassiz CBC in Marshall County was held on December 18. Some of the
species seen were one GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKEN, 18 GRAY PARTRIDGES, 146
SHARP-TAILED GROUSE,38 WILD TURKEYS, at least 300 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, and
about 100 PINE GROSBEAKS in Middle River, two PILEATED WOODPECKERS, and
three ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS. Also in Marshall County, Cliff Steinhauer reported
AMERICAN ROBIN, and DARK-EYED JUNCO on December 19, about 300 SNOW
BUNTINGS on December 22, and PINE GROSBEAKS and COMMON REDPOLLS on
December 24.

Zeann Linder saw about 75 to 100 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS in Thief River Falls,
Pennington County, on December 20. COMMON REDPOLLS showed up at our feeders
on Christmas Day.

>From Polk County, Terry Johnson reported a SNOWY OWL a mile east of Sherack
on December 20. SNOW BUNTINGS and COMMON REDPOLLS were also seen in the
county. Sandy Aubol reported three RED CROSSBILLS in East Grand Forks as
recently as December 24. Among species seen in Minnesota on the Grand Forks-
East Grand Forks CBC were a REDHEAD at the Crystal Sugar ponds, AMERICAN
TREE SPARROW, and a GRAY CATBIRD.

Patrick Beauzay reported an AMERICAN COOT at the Moorhead WTP on December
19. Species seen on the Minnesota side of the Fargo-Moorhead CBC on December
19 included NORTHERN PINTAIL, COOPER'S HAWK, BARRED OWL, and WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW.

In Becker County, Kay Hartness observed a BROWN THRASHER in her yard on
December 23.

The Bemidji CBC was held on December 19 and included 3 WILD TURKEYS just
west of MN 71 on the southern edge of the circle, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, a
VARIED THRUSH on Peninsula Drive on Stump Lake, BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS, LAPLAND
LONGSPURS, AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, RED CROSSBILLS, PINE GROSBEAKS, COMMON
REDPOLLS and a HOARY Redpoll. Most of the above were seen in the Hubbard
County part of the circle.

The Itasca CBC was held on December 20 where 10 BALD EAGLES, ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK, WILD TURKEY, BARRED OWL, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, GRAY JAY, both RED
CROSSBILLS and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, PINE GROSBEAKS, and COMMON REDPOLLS
were reported.

Douglas County sightings reported by Benjamin Eckhoff included CANVASBACKS,
REDHEAD, RING-NECKED DUCK, LESSER SCAUP, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, COMMON
MERGANSER and DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT. The lake was obviously open at that
point, but may be iced over by now.

Thanks to all who sent in their sightings this week, especially those
counted on the CBC's.

Please report bird sightings to Jeanie Joppru by email, no later than
Thursday each week, at ajjop...@mncable.net OR call the Detroit Lakes
Chamber's toll free number: 1-800-542-3992. Detroit Lakes area birders
please call 847-9202. Please include the county where the sighting took
place. The next scheduled update of this report will be Sunday, January 3,
2016

2009-10-08 Thread Jim Mattsson
When Drew Smith and I returned from seeing the W-w Dove yesterday, I wrote an
email and thought I posted it to MOU-net. Seeing Drew's post today alerted me
that I, in fact, had not sent it. My apologies. Anyway, Drew's post was no
doubt better than mine.
