We need documentation!!!

2001-05-28 Thread NeTDeMoN

There needs to be higher standards on documentation. I think it is too bad
there is not more documentation. I know that most developers don't enjoy
writing documentation, but we really need it. How many people here have had
trouble writing code and have been set back for days because something
wasn't documented correctly? It should be the first priority of the Mozilla
open source project to provide adequate documentation to developers. If more
quality docs were written, the following would occur:

1) Mozilla would get more developers - people would be more happy to help if
they knew where to start. They wouldn't get discouraged and quit due to the
lack of documentation
2) Code would get written faster - people wouldn't be stumped for a long
time, trying to figure out someone else's code.
3) Other developers wouldn't be asked as many questions, and people would
know more before they asked the questions - People could actually say "Look
at the docs" without sentencing someone to their death.

On a side note, I think there could be a Mozilla documentation request
system that collects requests for documentation and sorts them by
module/subsystem/etc.

Is it possible we could freeze the tree after Mozilla 1.0 is released in
order for all the developers to document their modules and subsystems they
work on? (Possibly for a couple weeks?)

Automatically set text size to 120% on startup?

2001-05-28 Thread Steve Snyder

The first thing I do when firing up Mozilla is to set the text size to
120%. For some reason, this gets me readable text where setting the font
sizes in Preferences doesn't. (This is on a RedHat v7.1 system.)

Is there a way to *automatically* have Mozilla set the text to 120% on
startup?

A related question: is there any doc on the command line switches, if any,
that Mozilla recognizes?

Thanks.

In addition to whatever discussion you find, remember, this is only true for the
Windows client. Since IE does not exist on other platforms aside from the Mac,
and AOL is expanding to Linux, and other devices, Mozilla is and will be used
there.

Re: Mozilla .9 Segmentation fault in Ximian Gnome.

2001-05-28 Thread MikeL

Well,
Installing from the .gz didn't help. I uninstalled the version that
came in the rpm format then I installed from the .gz to the default
/usr/local/mozilla. I added this to the path in /etc/bashrc so
everyone would see this directory from the icons already pointing to
'mozilla' on the Gnome menus. When I run this as root or su Mozilla
comes up without a problem. When I run this a normal user I get the
same error: 'Segment fault'. The only difference is that the error is
more descriptive:

/usr/local/mozilla/run-mozilla.sh /usr/local/mozilla/mozilla-bin
MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/local/mozilla
  LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla:/usr/local/mozilla/plugins
 LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla:/usr/local/mozilla/components
   SHLIB_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla
  LIBPATH=/usr/local/mozilla
   ADDON_PATH=/usr/local/mozilla
  MOZ_PROGRAM=/usr/local/mozilla/mozilla-bin
  MOZ_TOOLKIT=
moz_debug=0
 moz_debugger=
/usr/local/mozilla/run-mozilla.sh: line 72: 2937 Segmentation fault
$prog${1+"@"}

Does anyone know what is going on here?

Problem w' window sizing

2001-05-28 Thread Daniel Howe

Greetings,
I've implemented a sidebar window that displays a tree of items, and no
matter what I do (boxes, decks, vboxes, tree classes, harded-coded heights,
etc.) when the window is opened, the whole browser resizes vertically to
about 1000 px. This happens even when there are very few or 0 items in the
tree. Any help would be great (even a newsgroup who might reply to this query).
Thanks much,

Re: Mozilla .9 Segmentation fault in Ximian Gnome.

2001-05-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have noticed before that Mozilla likes to be run once as root on
initial install. But except for some bad nightly builds I haven't had
your problem.

I would suggest downloading the .gz version unpacking it into it's
mozilla directory then placing that somewhere like /usr/local/mozilla
and point your launcher icon at this parallel installation.

It's all contained in one directory so you don't gain much from the
package management system.

This probably will leave you with issues with the html viewer in
Nautilus which I have even with a working install of .9 (debian unstable).

Re: exiting problem

2001-05-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

How about-

It sounds like you are crashing with this build/install.

Try-

1. Uninstalling (confirm that the relevant directories are empty).
2. Delete your existing profile. Making sure you back up your bookmarks
and your mail.
3. Reinstalling .9 or perhaps even a very recent nightly build. The
nightly builds are a bit more likely to crash than a normal .9 install
but they are fast and there have been some nice improvements all around.

Just for comparision to your experience.

.7 .8 .81 .9 Milestone builds on Window2k and Linux are able to run for
days without problems in my experience.

Mike,
I did the same thing but I used the rpm's to update the existing rpm's
on my Red Hat 7.0 install w/ the new Gnome 1.4 already installed. I
even attempted to uninstall then re-install w/ no luck. I can run
mozilla from a term window as a regular user only if they are logged
in as 'su' or when 'root' logs in. Is this a Ximian Gnome error or a
problem with rights for Mozilla or just a bug???

I believe this problem is due to NN:s incapability to display frames as
they are supposed to look. Try to set the table-width in the top frame
to 690, and it´ll work fine in NN 4.7. But not in IE or NN6. One always
have to compromise making sites with frames.

If you use the following code instead, things will work out just
perfect.

Now, the content-frame is just one frame, in which you make a new
frameset containing your nav-frame and your content-frame.

Good luck!
