www.drudgereport.com - hopelessly screwed-up html?
This site has never rendered well for me under Mozilla - table cells are misaligned, push up and down all over the page. w3.org validator won't even validate it.
Re: Evangelism list
will hard to ignore. True, but what is AOL's upgrade rate? I understand that AOL5 is actually still the most-used AOL client...?
Re: Mozilla/Netscape Showes this Website Incorrectly
Well, after validating the page (or attempting to) using HTML 4.01 strict, transitional, XHTML 1.0 strict, etc, even HTML 3.2. I get: Sorry, this document does not validate as HTML version. Maybe that's a start to the problem ...in other words, use the automatic validation service here to make sure your page is correctly coded: http://validator.w3.org Once you are able to pass this validation test, if the page still does not render correctly post another message.
Re: Sticky-notes demo - broken?
Yes, it seems to have broken some time between 2001112208 and 2001112308 nightlies. I've filed a bug on Bugzilla, 116661. Thanks
Sticky-notes demo - broken?
The demo / test site here: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/xbl/test5/test.html says that I should be able to drag the sticky-notes around, but I'm unable to do this. Is the demo not working, or have I perhaps disabled something it depends on?
Customized standard Mozilla install and config?
I'm looking into using Mozilla as our default mail/web package, and I'm wondering if it's possible to do the following: - store user profiles in a user's home directory on a network, and have Mozilla look there by default (mapped network drive) - automate the process of creating an account. If the user does not have a profile in home directory, I'd like to automatically create one there with an account already set up for our IMAP server, requiring from the user nothing but a name and password to complete the profile and mail account setup; - home page set to our intranet employee home page; - our ldap server configured as an addressbook source; - lots of other similar customizations like that which I haven't thought of yet :-); Ideally, it would be nice if I could create an install image that would incorporate all these elements. Doable? Thanks! ps - I would prefer to use Mozilla rather than Netscape for this.
Re: how to control font sizes for menu's and dialogs
does anyone know how to increase the size of the fonts used for menus and dialogs used by mozilla? If you're using GNOME desktop on Linux, I believe changes made to fonts in your GTK themes also propagate to Mozilla.
Re: Mozilla as IE
WDA wrote: Using Mozilla 0.9.5., I haven't been able to do banking online or view my email messages at work; however, using the latest version of Opera, I can. Opera allows its user to guise the program into making other servers think that it is IE. Can Mozilla do the same? If so, how? Another neat feature of Mozilla is its mail client. USE IT TO GIVE YOUR BANK HELL for discriminating against non-IE users.
Mozilla - does it ever give memory back to system?
I did a simple test of Mozilla memory usage under Linux by running: free -mts 3 ...and watching the total memory free (phys + swap) as I performed operations in mozilla. Here are the results (I put memory before event for formatting purposes): Mem +/- Event === 651 Init 640 -11 Start browser 634 -6 Open mail 633 -1 Click IMAP folder 631 -2 Open msg 1 630 -1 Open msg 2 629 -1 Open msg 3 629 0 Open msg 4 628 -1 Open msg 5 627 -1 Open msg 6 625 -2 Resize mailer 623 -2 Open msg 6 623 0 Open msg 7 621 -2 Open msg 8 620 -1 Close all open msgs and close mailer 620 0 Reopen mailer 620 0 Open msg 1 619 -1 Open msg 2 618 -1 Open msg 3 618 0 Open msg 4 616 -2 Open msg 5 615 -1 Select another IMAP folder 615 0 Open msg 6 614 -1 Open msg 7 612 -2 Open msg 8 611 -1 Open msg 9 610 -1 Open msg 10 610 0 Close all open messages 610 0 Close mailer 648 38 Close Mozilla Basically, it looks like Mozilla uses slightly under one meg every time you open a message, and doesn't give back any memory until you close Mozilla entirely. Is this by design? (Or are these results meaningless for some reason?)
CARS.COM - blocking bad browsers
CARS.COM had already limited its usefulness by using Java in its primary interface. Now it's gone that extra step: banning what it calls broken browsers. So, Mozilla users - stop by and clue them in on the business they're turning away by being lazy and discriminatory. While you're at it, urge them to offer as an alternative a plain, easy-to-implement, easy-to-use, standards-compliant web interface. Here's the feedback URL - but you'll have to use another browser to access it :-( http://cars.com/carsapp/national/?srv=parseract=indextf=/feedback.tmpl
Re: CARS.COM - blocking bad browsers
Geraint Edwards wrote: I have no problems accessing the main site using Moz 0.9.5 for Linux (note that I have not got Java installed). They are using Java for an interactive map as part of the results when you do a search. Since DHTML would really struggle to offer similar functionality I think this is fair enough. Have you tried enabling Java? I'm using Mozilla 0.9.5, and I have Java enabled, although I'm using JDK 1.4beta3. I don't think any website should deny you access based on a browser check, JVM version check, or anything similar for that matter. A warning that some features might not work along with links to compatible browsers is acceptable, but then it should be up to you to choose your threshold of pain. I would accept the search application not working since I'm using a beta JVM, but there is non-Java content on that site that I might want - for example the feedback page! As for the Java functionality, I actually like Java, but I think its use is gratuitous on cars.com and actually gets in the way (if my memory serves me correctly). For one thing, the applet is not resizable, nor are its fonts - a problem on higher-resolution monitors. For another, you're unable to view the photo enlargement in a new window - which means you have to reload the search applet after viewing a photo. In any case, the silver lining is that I did find autotrader.com, which offers much of the same functionality but is HTML-based. :-)
Re: CARS.COM - blocking bad browsers
Hm. Works fine here. Given the reports of success here I took another look. Seems it fails only when I connect through my proxy (junkbuster + squid on a separate box).
Re: how come there is no GUI for the disable popups preference?
Jonathan Wilson wrote: Is it because no-one has yet made a preferences dialog feature for it? Where in the code/xul/etc would I need to start in order to make such a GUI. well, if everyone could do it the advertisers would get wise and find a work-around :-)
Re: Mozilla 0.9.3 crashes at www.avm.de
since several builds Mozilla 0.9.3+ crashes every time without any error message when I visit http://www.avm.de. Just tried it with build 20010830 on Win2KPro - loaded OK for me.
Alexa.com ??
what the fuck is Alexa.com and why is Mozilla sending it all my URL requests? Thanks so much.
MOZILLA-ICON.PNG - could someone please send to me?
Could someone please send me this icon? In Linux, it's placed here by default: /usr/share/pixmaps/mozilla-icon.png It's in the 0.7xx releases but not the later ones. I'd DL and install 0.7, but it conflicts with my nightlky copies of mozilla, so I'm hoping someone could just send it to me. Thanks
