The old Xing decoder source is available (it is used in freeamp),
so maybe there is some confusion and the encoder source was
never available?

I think FhG and ISO have common ancestors, too. They are quite similar.

It's the second time that someone mentions the tompg sources as beeing
available. But does anyone knows where to find them?

I think the answer is 2: FhG and ISO.

Xing evolved from tompg, which I think is also a direct
descendent of the ISO code. The tompg source code is out there,
so you could check.

[MP3 ENCODER] Encoders genealogy

2000-06-20 Thread E. Zann

Hi folks,

How many original, or "basic", so to say, mp3
encoders are out there ??? I can think only of
ISO, Fhg, and Xing ...

And what is genealogy of mp3 codecs, anyway ???
Which one was the first, what is derived from
what, etc. ???

If you find it interesting, but too much off topic
for the list, please, do not hesitate to reply me
directly :)

Greetings,
-E.
