Run Lame.exe in console mode to see its version (it should look like 3.95 or
so)
The latest version I know of is 3.96 alpha.

There should be "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" string somewhere
inside Lame executable if it is compiled by MSVC (most likely).

First, we need a few information:

*version of Lame
*compiler used (eventually)
*parameters used
*does Lame crash on every files or just some specific files *does Lame
always crash on some files, or does it sometimes manage to encode them

Regards,

Version:
RazorLame 1.1.5.1342 and LAME.exe packed with it dated 12/8/2002 for Windows
win32 (I did not compile it myself -- used installer). Is there a more up
to date version of LAME compiled for win32?

Compiler used:
N/A (pre-built for win32 by RazorLame author included with packed installer)

Parameters used:
Using the preset packaged with RazorLame named "VBR 05 Voice.rlo" -- actual
options are --> " -b 40 -m m -V 4 -B 112 --resample 24 --lowpass 12
--lowpass-width 0 --noshort"

Crash notes:
LAME has successfully encoded about 90% of the MP3's I have thrown at it.
Other 10% are failing no matter how many times I try to encode them. Fails
somewhere at the beginning phases and Windows issues an "Address could not
be read" or "Address could not be written" message -- so looks like some
type of bounds checking problem or corrupt data. It might be happening in
the reconvert from 44 to 24 kHz. I have absolutely no idea and just offer
my modest and humble interpretation of the problem. I will note that
MusicMatch encodes the files just fine! Some I don't have any idea what the
problem is. Any ideas? Should I post the problem MP3's to the list? The
files are about 30 MB each. Maybe I could just shove them onto my personal
FTP server...

[mp3encoder] LAME: Problem encoding some files...

2004-01-22 Thread Kristian Hermansen
I had some trouble encoding a few files. LAME crashed on me a few times and
I was wondering if you guys know someone who could look into the bugs. I
emailed a few guys and they recommended this list for help. The main
problem I have is in converting some larger MP3 files using the preset
"Voice VBR" option in LAME to MP3 again (size reduction on convert to 24 kHz
as defined by preset). Is there a way to post debugging info? Let me know
what you guys think...
