Dear MQers,
Have you attended MQ certification?   Do you find it useful?
Which of them are most useful?  How to prepare for it?  Is it possible
to prepare without attending IBM classes?

Peter,

I recently bought 2 CU's for V5.2 and I was able to ask for the V5.3 media
for free. If support was not included, or if I let my support period
lapse, I wouldn't be able to ask for the V5.3 media. I'm sure with sales,
there are many ways to wangle what you want.

I question that also.. is it that when you buy WMQ capacity units, say with
a two year term, that you buy the right to get free upgrades (new versions)
for two years, but that service/support is an entirely different matter?
That you must purchase a support contract like Passport Advantage or
SupportLine to get support from IBM. And that this support is only in
effect while the version of WMQ is not yet at end of service?

Re: end of service for MQ 5.2

2002-12-31 Thread john gilmore
Prithwiraj,   It means what it says.  IBM support will not be available after 2003 December 31.  This is routine for all IBM software.  You must assess whether or not you think you will need this support.  If you think you will, you should migrate to Websphere MQ before the end of 2003.  If not, you can perhaps delay this migration for a time but not indefinitely.     Whatever you decide you must plan to move to new releases periodically. John GilmoreSystemCraft LLCThe opinions expressed above are mine alone. In particular, they are not necessarily shared by my company or its clients.

Re: Version 5.2 end of service

2002-12-31 Thread Rick Tsujimoto
You'll have to upgrade if you want to receive support. Also, it'll cost
you. Typically, support is free for the first year when you purchase the
capacity units for a given machine. After that, you either pay for annual
support, or you live without it.

Re: ebcdic to ascii conversion in MQseries

2002-12-31 Thread Beinert, William
There is no built-in facility to convert message on PUT.

MQ will do it for you either:
When the receiving application GETs the message (if MQGMO_CONVERT is specified on the
GET)
or
In the channel (which can be wasteful if the message hops through several queue
managers on the way to it's destination).

Have a look at the MQGMO_CONVERT option for the get message options when you

If you can't change the program that gets the messages, you can change the
channel definition between mainframe and Solaris to do the convertion on the

You can find the end of service dates by platform at
http://www-3.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/support/summary/. 5.2 and 5.2.1
both go off support 31 Dec 2003. There is probably no reason for you to go
to 5.3 (which is WebSphere MQ) if you only use limited functionality.

Still not working. I tried running an application program in the

s our problem too. So we had the flow rollback the message and try
again. We
played with the testing and tried to determine which codes were thrown
because the database was taken away and whci ones were stale states.
There
are two error codes for the connection handle that we found. One sez
there
is no handle, the other one sez that the one it has is not valid any
more
(DB went down). It's fun!!

So you got it working???

Merry Christmas everybody.

Yet again I am looking for beta testers of my MO71 supportpac. If you were
kind enough to offer to test the last version then I will assume you would
like the new one unless you tell me different.

The features of the new one include :-

Multiple network views
Network view supports clusters, processes & namelists
Save selections on list refresh
No automatic object refresh preference option
Margin and overlap settings saved across invocations
Allow option for no main windows in taskbar
Existing window icon displayed on command menu
Export allowed for (nearly) all dialogs in text mode
Colour Scheme support
List titles buttons/Ruled lists (prettier that's all)
Main icon goes red if any QM in error (switchable)
MQSC window logs the file chosen from file(?)
New colour setting for selected items in a list window
New action to reset status of a location/all locations
Add locale selection to preferences dialog - codepage support
highlight selected QM links in network view

Plus one or two bug fixes which we don't like to talk about.

Many thanks to all of you who suggested many of these enhancements.

Have a great 2003,

P.

Have a look at the MQGMO_CONVERT option for the get message options when you
read the message. This will convert from the mainframe charset to the
Solaris charset for you.

If you can't change the program that gets the messages, you can change the
channel definition between mainframe and Solaris to do the convertion on the
messages that get transferred. You'll find this on the CONVERT option of a
channel definition, something like:

ALTER CHL(MFQM.TO.SOLARISQM) CONVERT(YES)

Re: Transaction coordination with 5.3 and Oracle on AIX 5.1

2002-12-31 Thread Robert Broderick
s our problem too. So we had the flow rollback the message and try again. We
played with the testing and tried to determine which codes were thrown
because the database was taken away and whci ones were stale states. There
are two error codes for the connection handle that we found. One sez there
is no handle, the other one sez that the one it has is not valid any more
(DB went down). It's fun!!

So you got it working???

memory serves me correctly, they generally happened on the MQCMIT. They
were certainly transitory. This time, I consistently get the error when
calling xa_open. This appears to be the first call to the DB.

Moving /var/mqm/log

2002-12-31 Thread Jeff A Tressler
We currently have our MQSeries logs on a disk array. The file
system has mapped /var/mqm/log to a logical disk partition
on the disk array.

This disk array is getting full and a new disk array has been
purchased. The plan calls for moving the MQSeries logs to
the new disk array.

Is there any problem with this?

Details:
   HP-UX 11.0
   MQSeries 5.1
Moving from EMC to XP512 disk array

I have this feeling that moving the logs will cause some kind
of internal pointers to get mixed up causing the logs to no
longer work and causing the queue managers to fail. I do
not know where I got this impression but it is a strong feeling.

At the very least, I believe we need to stop all queue managers
so logging completes before the move. Any other suggestions.

Don't know if there is anything special about doing it from a compute node or how many
bytes it occupies, but the SQL syntax to
insert a standard Oracle date from a string is:

UPDATE table
SET column =TO_DATE(yourdate,'MMDD');

Merry Christmas everybody.

Yet again I am looking for beta testers of my MO71 supportpac. If you were
kind enough to offer to test the last version then I will assume you would
like the new one unless you tell me different.

The features of the new one include :-

Multiple network views
Network view supports clusters, processes & namelists
Save selections on list refresh
No automatic object refresh preference option
Margin and overlap settings saved across invocations
Allow option for no main windows in taskbar
Existing window icon displayed on command menu
Export allowed for (nearly) all dialogs in text mode
Colour Scheme support
List titles buttons/Ruled lists (prettier that's all)
Main icon goes red if any QM in error (switchable)
MQSC window logs the file chosen from file(?)
New colour setting for selected items in a list window
New action to reset status of a location/all locations
Add locale selection to preferences dialog - codepage support
highlight selected QM links in network view

Plus one or two bug fixes which we don't like to talk about.

Many thanks to all of you who suggested many of these enhancements.

Have a great 2003,

P.

I'm sure that the XAResourceManager stanza is correct. We copied the
database from another system, and I cut and pasted the stanza from a
working qm.ini. (rev 5.2) Also, If I add +SQLNET=whatever to the
XAOpenString, I can access the database successfully.

I'm not positive about the switch file. It compiled cleanly, i.e., with
no errors, but we are dealing with a new version of the compiler here.

It looks like we are getting through to the Oracle XA interface which is
returning ORA-3113. So I THINK the switch file is OK.

Are you sure your compile of the SWITCH file worked. I had problems with
the
makefile that was supplied. What does your XA_Resource stanza look like.
The
first one is there because we are using WMQI but when we were setting up

Re: Transaction coordination with 5.3 and Oracle on AIX 5.1

2002-12-31 Thread Gutekunst, Brant

The
first one is there because we are using WMQI but when we were setting up
XA
with MQ alone it looked like the commented out one:

Or have your triggered application do a CICS Start with a USERID

Hi,

The MQ triggered transaction will run with the userid belonging to the CKTI
trigger monitor which started it.

This usually runs with the CICS Region or CICS default userid, or else a
PLT userid.

The IBM trigger monitor does not propagate userids from the message to the
transaction. There are various reasons for this, such as that CICS
transactions have a userid for the life of the transaction, not the unit of
work, and most CICS triggered transactions run trigger(first) and do
multiple messages in a single transaction, with multiple units of work.
This just breaks down completely if you try to get security information
from the MQ message.

So you will probably find that your own userid has access to the plan, but
the CICS userid doesn't. If you use CKQC to stop and restart the trigger
monitor, your security problem may go away (temporarily of course). In the
longer term, you will need to grant the CICS region or CICS PLT userid
access to execute your plan.

Regards... Neil Casey.

I m using plans. Both plans are authorized in db2. The access problem
arises only when it is mq triggered. if I manually trigger the same
transaction it works fine .

Hi,

I am working on IBM-3090. I have a MQ triggered program in
COBOL-CICS. This program gets the data from the queue and xctls to another
CICS program which accesses DB2 database. The problem is that I cannot
access DB2 in this second program. I am getting an sqlcode of -922. If I
trigger the program which reads from the queue directly through CICS it
runs
fine and gets the database access. Can anybody give any clue what may be
the reason ?

Re: ebcdic to ascii conversion in MQseries

2002-12-31 Thread Gutekunst, Brant
Title: Message

I’d like to add that the preferred
method is to do the conversion on the get, rather than on the channel.

In either case, you also need to make sure
that the Format of the message is MQFMT_STRING.

Have a look at the
MQGMO_CONVERT option for the get message options when you read the message.
This will convert from the mainframe charset to the Solaris charset for you.

If you can't change the
program that gets the messages, you can change the channel definition between
mainframe and Solaris to do the convertion on the messages that get
transferred. You'll find this on the CONVERT option of a channel definition,
something like:

ALTER CHL(MFQM.TO.SOLARISQM)
CONVERT(YES)

Hi,

We have a setup wherein we communicate between two
applications using

MQseries 5.1 installed on sunsolaris and MQSeries on

message is written from mainframes and read from
Unix local queue we get junk characters.

I have heard that some X format to ASCII

It would be very helpful if someone can let us

ebcdic to ascii conversion in MQseries

2002-12-31 Thread Manish Sharma

Hi,
We have a setup wherein we communicate between two applications using
MQseries 5.1 installed on sunsolaris and MQSeries on mainframes. When any
message is written from mainframes and read from Unix local queue we
get junk characters.
I have heard that some X format to ASCII conversion is required
on message.
It would be very helpful if someone can
let us know.
1> What is this X format.
2> Do we have to do this conversion programatically or just set the
property
in a queue.
3> Any other methods by which i can achieve this.

Re: WMQI: ACL Problems

2002-12-31 Thread K K HK
Manish,

Do you get error message on CICS or DB2 log? I think the userid assigned
to the MQ triggered transaction is different from the one which does not
encountered problem.

Could you try to assign same userID to the MQ triggered transaction?

Hi,

I am working on IBM-3090. I have a MQ triggered program in
COBOL-CICS. This program gets the data from the queue and xctls to another
CICS program which accesses DB2 database. The problem is that I cannot
access DB2 in this second program. I am getting an sqlcode of -922. If I
trigger the program which reads from the queue directly through CICS it runs
fine and gets the database access. Can anybody give any clue what may be
the reason ?
