Re: Growing number of OPPROCS

2003-02-08 Thread Nick Dilauro
No handles can be MQCONN or MQOPEN, any command that returns a handle. In
one of our CICS program linked to another program which failed to close the
queues. This program was invoked many times within the calling process so
the handles accumulated.

We are currently experiencing the same problem in our shop. Queue manager is
currently configured for 256 MAXHANDS but yet we have a few queues with the
number of IPPROCS and OPPROCS over 300(obviously a misbehaving application).
So, that leads me to conclude that handles imply MQCONN calls to a queue
manager not the open calls to the queue. Can someone please confirm what is
the official definition of a handle in the context of a MAXHANDS parameter
of a queue manager.

Thanks,

Michael.

The queue manager has a MAXHANDS parameter that will cause MQOPENs to
to fail if a process exceeds this handle limit. It defaults to 256,
but we had a badly coded app, and we set MAXHANDS to 4000 for a while
until they could fix their problem. So if there's any architectural
limit, it's greater than 4000 anyway.

 Hi All,

We have a queue who's OPPROCS are growing and are trying to determine
 cause,
but in the mean time, the OPPROCS are climbing to over 200 at this
 point.

Does anyone know what the limit is to the number of OPPROCS on a local
 queue
under MQ 5.2 on Solaris platform? It's a 3 digit number, but will MQ
 accept
up to 999? And what happens when either the limit is hit or the
 counter hits
999? Will the queue manager refuse new object connection requests to
 that
 queue?

 Info is really appreciated,

 Thanks,

 Stephen A. Johnson

Re: Message distribution

2003-02-08 Thread Michael Dale

Alan -
If you have MQSI 2.1 in the shop, there is a
propagate node that will do what you want. If it is Z/OS and messages are small
consider queue sharing groups. Otherwise, you will need to trigger hard coded
queue and propagate the message to other recipients.

Alan,One thing you could do is to change the queue to
an QALIAS over a QLOCAL and trigger a program you write. Then this
program could take in a single message and put out three messages. This
way the original application remains unchanged and you have the ability to
intercede. Since the messages would be short lived, the queue should remain in
memory and not have a real concern for performance. Alex

  Hello all

I am looking for solution of sending messages to several destinations.
Our application knows how to put message only to one queue. In this point
it's too late to change the code and use distribution list.
I was wondering if there is any way configuration wise which allows to forward the
same message to 3 different queues simultaneously.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the delay.. I know this does not leave any time to respond
before
some of us head out to Las Vegas.

I've collated the 'Wish List' requests, and although I am less
enthusiastic
about getting results from this effort, I still value the responses from
everyone. I'm going to include a text version, summarizing the results,
in-line below. I apologize for the amount of data and limited descriptions
of some items, especially those I'm not quite sure of.., and for the
insertion of TAB (or spaces) which may not line up. I won't bother to
clean
it up in this outgoing note, as email readers tend to break lines
 differently.

If anyone wants to 'vote', given that this may be get a low priority by
our
IBM participants (whose opinions and advice I read voraciously, and who
already have a heaping plateful of work in front of them), then please go
ahead. Reply with some designation, maybe a number from 1 to 5, with 1 as
 the most important..

I can give it to an IBM'er who is interested or perhaps someone there
could
get it directly from the listserv.

When replying, please do not include this verbiage at the top! Thank you.
