I have installed and used the client successfully on XP and 5.2.1. The manager is not compliant. See links below. 1) WMQ 5.2.1 client on XP http://www-3.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/platforms/supported/mqseries_for_winnt2000_5_2.html and http://www-3.ibm.com/software/ts/mqseries/txppacs/macp.html both show that the 5.2.1 client is supported on XP. Did you try creating a QM from the command line? I've found that to be the most stable mechanism.
