Do you mean your application messages are ending up in the DLQ with that

needs to monitor the INITQ.

All MSGS being sent to this queue are now ending up in the DLQ.
I have sent along the Dead letter header info.

Dead Letter Header

Put-Application name RUNMQTRM
Put-Application type QAT_WINDOWS_NT
Encoding: 546

Re: What causes Apps to stop triggering on WIN2000 server??

2002-10-25 Thread GIES, STEVE
Dave -

A common "gotcha" with triggering on FIRST is the rule that the triggered
queue cannot be opened for input in order for a trigger message to be
generated. The presumption being that whatever has the queue open for input
is going to process off any messages on the queue.

So, if your program is using some handy-dandy tool to view the messages on
the queue - so that he can prove that the messages are there - and this tool
opens the queue for input (even though it also opens it for browse as well)
this will prevent the triggering from occurring. A more subtle variation of
this gotcha is if there are errant processes still running, from a previous
trigger occurrence, that has not closed the queue.

Of course, I'm presuming that you've checked the obvious - is the trigger
monitor still running (the init queue would have an open input count of 1)
and it is not writing error messages to the event log indicating a problem
starting the app.

Dave, not on Windows, but on OS/390, I've seen applications abend/fail
before they got the messages from the input queue. It looks to the
programmer like the triggering isn't working, but it is -- it's just that
the way they tell is that the message goes away and if the program dies

This is in addition to the things that might actually stop your triggering.
You know, the "real things", like the trigger monitor died or the INITQ is
disabled or some sneaky person set triggering off from a program.

). I asked what changed again and then instructed him to back out what he
changed and go with his original code. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA Original code?
Windows? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Anyway he now has his "code" back the way it was
and it is not triggering. ANY clue why this would happen?

Dave,

are you running trigger monitor as service or batch? The trigger monitor service is notorious for stop triggering with no apparent reason. We only use batch mode runmqtrm, at least you can see what's wrong.

cheers,

Subject: What causes Apps to stop triggering on WIN2000 server??

Hi folks !
I starting to have a love/hate relationship with WIN2000 servers ( mostly
hate ). I had a "programmer" ask me what I had done to MQ? MY answer?
NOTHING!!! He then goes on to say that his "application" stopped getting
triggered. Ok so what did you change? "NOTHING" ( said with a sheepish look
