RE: PC Floppy disk drive for Turbo R: article in MCCM72?

2001-05-23 Thread Hans Otten

I am converting it to PDF and plan to add a compact translation to english.
It will be published tomorrow or friday (although the weather is extreme
sunny here in Holland).

Re: LOADROM.COM help needed

2001-05-23 Thread Bjørn Boye Skjoldhammer

If it has 256KB mapped RAM (Not as stated on the desktop (256K RAM (128RAM+128VRAM)),
then it should work, though I remember that
it hangs also on my SONY 700 (256K RAM).
What version do you have? of loadrom?
I remember to have run many mega roms
on my SVI-738 2+, with 1MB of internal memeory. It worked fine in most cases. AFAIK it
supports DOS2, but I can´t exactly remember if it this had have something to do with
it?

No, I don't; I was under the impression that it was an MSX-DOS 1.0 program.
  .
Is there any way to load ROMs using MSX-DOS 1.x or MSX-Basic 2.x? I just
don't quite have the money for MSX-DOS 2.x at the moment.

DOS2 4MB (and a little GEM news)

2001-05-23 Thread Patriek Lesparre

Hi all!

I'm using the MSX-DOS2 mapper support routines and found something strange.
According to the docs the total nr of segments listed in the Mapper
Variable Table can contain 1-255. But a 4MB mapper has 256 segments!

According to my tests with a 4MB mapper, DOS2 indeed lists it as 255
segments (4080kB) and trying to allocate all segments does result in
segment 256 being ignored!

Questions:
1. Is there a way around this?
2. It seems segment 256 is always free, is that a safe assumption?
3. Do the 2 DOS2 system segments reside in segment 254 and 255?

I think it would've been better if DOS2 counted from 0, not from 1 :(

Greetz,
Patriek

PS: Oh, I promised some GEM news :)

On Tilburg 2001 I announced (ahum, stuck a paper on the TNI booth ^^;) a
version of GEM using Dynamic Recompilation. At the time there was still a
bug in it, but not anymore. My current development version is running
around 25% faster on a normal MSX2. You need quite a bit of memory though
(2x ROM-size + whatever else available).
I don't know when a release will take place, but I'm working on it! ^_^

Re: LOADROM.COM help needed

2001-05-23 Thread Brendan Cross

I have LOADROM 1.1, and, it seems, my MSX2 actually has 128KB of RAM. Oddly,
I'm able to load ROMs that are split and that come with their own BASIC
loaders...

Memory question

2001-05-23 Thread Brendan Cross

This is probably a stupid question, but... how do I upgrade the memory on my
MSX2? If possible, I'd like to upgrade it to 4MB. ^.^ It's an NMS-8250,
with, built-in, 128KB ram 128KB VRAM.
