Agreed, for cases where it doesn't cause confusion (classical mostly), but here it feels problematic. I think it's hard to avoid confusion in some cases, since normal usage isn't always the same as Musicbrainz terminology. Here versions in different languages are different works, but otherwise sometimes all these are seen as versions of the same work. There are certainly well-known songs with lyrics that have been translated to different languages, where you would usually use translated names regardless of lyrics language, not just in classical music. One example is The Internationale. In an English-language text you would normally use The Internationale both for the French original and the English translation, for instance. (And not *L'Internationale for the former.)* *Actually I think Musicbrainz doesn't handle that situation very well. Is it only the the French original that should have lots of translated names? Or all versions? The latter case would be a serious case of going against DRY (Don't Repeat Yourself). [mb-style] Aliases for works
When is a translated title of a work applicable as an alias of that work? There is a translation of the Lennon/McCartney song Yesterday into Latvian, called Vakardiena, and that is also entered as the Latvian alias of the original. I got confused by Yesterday (Vakardiena) when I was making a link to Yesterday, and now I'm trying to remove that alias, thinking that it should only be used about the translated version.
