You should work on you ability to _read_ mails others write _properly_.
I told you, that the file _is_ executable. And as you eventually noticed
someone else already pointed the right solution out to me, which were
not a missing executable flag.

Well actually it did. So that would suggest that there is nothing wrong with
my Mutt setup.

Yes, someone else suggested (off list) that:
>If the mailing list software is Mailman, you might want to check
>that "Receive your own posts to the list?" is set to "yes" and
>"Avoid duplicate copies of messages?" to "no".

When I checked I found that the RKH mailing list (on sourceforge) is indeed a
Mailman list, but my personal settings already had "Receive your own posts"
set to "Yes".
"Avoid duplicates" however was set to yes. I have changed it now, but have not
since posted to that list. I am not sure that that was the problem however. If
I quote the Mailman text exactly for this option it states:

" When you are listed explicitly in the To: or Cc: headers of a list message,
you can opt to not receive another copy from the mailing list. Select Yes to
avoid receiving copies from the mailing list; select No to receive copies.

If the list has member personalized messages enabled, and you elect to receive
copies, every copy will have a X-Mailman-Copy: yes header added to it. "

Which, to me, would suggest that a reply *to* me would be affected by this
option but a post *from* me would not. Nevertheless I have changed it and will
see what happens.

If the problem persists I remain mystified

Thanks for your help so far...

As you've already learned, script doesn't wait for your input, it
already got it from STDIN (EOT). What you see is only the prompt
echo thrown into your regular mutt screen, while it actually already
has returned to mutt. When you press again, why should it be
any different from your first execution? Use q or x to see the
difference.

Because macros operate on functions, while hooks operate on muttrc
commands. See http://WIKI.mutt.org/ -> MuttGuide -> Syntax for

Just a guess, but maybe after running an external script, mutt re-runs the
hooks; after all, it is still "Before mutt displays (or formats for replying
or forwarding) a message". The muttrc man page, at least, is not very
specific (AFAICT) about when the hooks get run.

In any case you'll presumably want some way of /not/ prompting the user to
send the receipt if one has already been sent for this message; ideally some
way that's "built in" to mutt, i.e. doesn't require an external script.

No problem, this is what we use here in Baviera (South of Germany)
as 'beer mug' in which fits one litter exactly and made of stone

no, thats no problem.

> Depending on what your want try either or

Hm. That and what Dave Evans wrote works, at least partially. Now the
script is launched, but it does not work as expected. It starts the
script which outputs:

User has asked for a return receipt. Send one? ([yes]/no):

and waits for an input ("read yn"), but mutt adds its "Press any key to
continue...". So it seems that mutt already answers the question (what
it shouldn't do). Also if I do press return to that question, it
restarts the script and the game starts from the beginning. Endless,
until i somehow force it to quit (not that easy).

The (for now very basic script):
#!/bin/sh

TEMP="`mktemp`"
trap "rm -f $TEMP" INT ABRT EXIT
tee > $TEMP

QUESTION="User has asked for a return receipt. Send one? ([yes]/no): "
echo -n $QUESTION
read yn

(I know that this is far from beeing complete, but to test how things
would work it is enough)

Any hints?

Patrick

Howto run a command in message hooks (was: Re: How to send a return receipt)

2007-10-24 Thread Patrick Schoenfeld
Hi,

as it does not seem to be integrated into mutt upstream (at least not in
a forseeable timeline) I'm currently trying to
figure who a scripted solution to my problem would look like.

On Tue, Oct 23, 2007 at 06:14:48PM +0200, Rado S wrote:
> It appears complex to you, but in fact it _is_ simple.

If thats true, then the problem I am currently stuck on should be fairly simple
to solve. So some explanations, then my question:

I want to write a script that _asks_ the user, if he wants to send a return
receipt (note how that differs from your assumption that a macro would be
suffice. For me it wouldn't because w/o the question _I_ would forget to send
the return receipt). Something like this can automatically be triggered only by
message
hooks. But as the solution is extern (= a script), how do i call it from within
the message hook? I added a hook like this:

message-hook "~h Return-Receipt-To:" "|/home/schoenfeld/.mutt/return_receipt"

And even though the specified file is a valid executable script mutt says (when
I open this mail in the pager):

|/home/schoenfeld/.mutt/return_receipt: Unknown command

Why? According to what I read this works for macros, why shouldn't it work for
message hooks?

The above hooks are fine, as long as they are not squeezed later in the

account-hook, imap_pass not used ?

2007-10-24 Thread Nicolas KOWALSKI
Hello,

I am trying to use multiple IMAP accounts. Following the Wiki, I use
these settings:

account-hook . 'unset imap_pass'
account-hook imap://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ 'set imap_pass="secret"'
account-hook imap://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/ 'set imap_pass="anothersecret"'

set spoolfile="imap://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/INBOX"

But when I start mutt, it always asks for a password. The "imap_pass"
variable does not seem to be used.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks.

PS:

if I remove the above hooks, to only use my primary account, it works
well. This is with these settings:

set spoolfile="imap://petole.dyndns.org/INBOX"
set imap_user=niko
set imap_pass=secret

Hello all,

I have no idea if this is even a Mutt problem. All I can say with any
certainty is that I used Mutt to produce the emails concerned.

As well as this mailing list I am subscribed to some others. Yesterday I made
my first post to one of them. It never showed up. Except that I know it did
because someone replied to it and their reply (quoting my message) did appear
in my mailbox.

I do use folder hooks so that I can create a specific identity for each
mailing list:
# Mailing list folder hooks:
# This one ensures that all mail to the Mutt-users mailing list is sent by "MT
Lists"
send-hook '~C @mutt.org' 'my_hdr From: Arthur Dent <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>'
send-hook '~C @mutt.org' 'set pgp_sign_as=FDE78872'

# This one ensures that all mail to the RKHunter mailing list is sent by "RKH
List"
send-hook '~C rkhunter' 'my_hdr From: Arthur Dent <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>'
send-hook '~C rkhunter' 'set pgp_sign_as=FDE78872'

When I sent my first mail to the RKH list I had forgotten to add it to my
"lists"
list - but it was a new post and not a reply so I simply typed in the "To"
address
anyway. Subsequently I added it to my "lists" and hit "L" to reply to the
replies to
my post.

The result is always the same. My message never appears in my mailbox, replies
to it
do. I have resorted to adding myself as a "cc".

I am curious to see if this message to this list shows up (I am not cc-ing
myself on
this one).

Thanks in advance for your help

nice.

Would it be possible to add commandline parameters? If I have time, I
can contribute.
