I had looked at my .mailcap file, which didn't help, but
~/.mime.types (which I haven't touched since 1995)
contains--well, contained--exactly one line:

  audio/basic gif jpeg

and I don't know why I did that.  I can't even think of a reason
anyone would _want_ to do that.
