[MLO] Re: Lifebalance features into MLO + alternatives

2009-06-08 Thread Tim

Having paid for LifeBalance 3 or 4 -no maybe 5 year ago (it hasn't
changed since), and having tried to make it work for me x-different
ways, I can attest the balance feature of LifeBalance is overrated,
ultimately useless for someone who needs to prioritize first, and only
second gain balance in areas of hobbies and other low priority
'tasks'.

But I know this gets philosophical.

Still, acknowledging the value balance, the aim to "Do some of
everything once in a while / do the rounds in the different areas of
my life/job" can be implemented simply and with much more control -
more accurate control, more tangible control, more definable control-
by using reoccuring tasks combined with other MLO features. (See the
Fly Lady's Control Journal template for some examples.)

As for "Do some of everything in rotation so that I achieve weighted
balance X" -also known as the "oh no, my pie-charts don't match"
prioritization method, well, that's a nice idea that ends up being
silly in actual practice. It takes a huge amount of micro-management
to determine the value/contribution of each task -only to end up with
statistics that are very vague and most likely incorrect. Getting
things done (not the methodology, actually getting thinsg done) is
tangible, has concrete benefits. Getting things done in all areas of
your life is tangible, has concrete benefits. Being "balanced" in
your life makes sense. But applying that principal at the task level
does not.

And it totally screws up working by prioritization.

That said, some argue that prioritization is also a lost cause, that
we're fooling ourselves.

[MLO] Re: MLO PPC "hangs" since upgrade to 3.0.0

2009-06-08 Thread Rainer

Andrey,

I tried everything you suggested. With 3.0.0 installed on ppc I

- created a new Datafile with new name
- did a fresh sync from Desktop
- started MLO and checked: closing a task and returning to "To Do"
view takes a long time (much longer than in 2.5.2)
- tried to stop reminder service (after tapping "close" the ppc hang
for a very long time) -> soft reset
- uninstalled 3.0.0
- soft reset

- installed 2.52 - everything works fine and very quickly.

Another note:

Active Sync is running everytime MLO 3.0 is started on the ppc (even
if it is not cradled). With the 2.52 Active Sync does NOT start.

Post me your email if you need any logs.

Thanks

Rainer

[MLO] Feature Request: 10 Features

2009-06-08 Thread Alexis

Hi, im a total MLO-Newbie but a fan already.

1. Drag & Drop in the To Do-List should be possible even if the list
is sorted by Computed Score. I mean it´s all about whats the next
thing i have to do. Should i really change the Importance and Urgency
Values for changing the order of my tasks? Why not allow drag & drop
and let MLO calculate and adapt those values for the dragged position?

2. Many tasks i can´t do at the moment. There should be a defer
function for tasks to hide/defer them for a specific amount of time,
which should be minutes to days or even weeks. Technical that would be
setting the start time to a future time/date.

3. The Format Options of tasks should affect the whole line (row) of
the task even if the order of the columns has been changed in the To-
Do list. If you drag the icons to the left of the tasks name you see
what i mean. Same for the name of the groups.

4. There are some inconsistencies regarding the hotkeys. Some Hotkeys
are not changeable (F5, F8) although they are assignable but not
working. There should be a warning if you´re trying to assign an
already used hotkey to a function. It should be possible to assign any
key to any function.

5. The Formatting options in Tasknotes are way too limited. Even worse
is that keyoperations do not work the way everybody ist used to
nowadays. CTRL + Backspace deletes the word left from the cursor. That
is normal. But CTRL + Del deletes the whole task (instead of deleting
the word right from the cursor). If you select a whole line with the
mouse and delete it there is still a blank line left! Paragraphs
should be moveable with ALT + Arrow Up/Down. The formats bold, italic,
underlined, (un-) numbered lists should be the minimum.

6. Undo and Redo should be possible in a multistep way.

7. I doubt it´s the best idea to specify a fixed position for icons.
It would be better to give the icons a hierachy number and let them
freely fill the icon column without replacing each other. The least
important icons will than maybe not be visible due a lack of space.

8. It would be great to have the themes individually for every view in
the To-Do Views to feel that you are in the right view. It would ease
the work also.

9. The One Point Something Numbers for Importance, Urgencys should be
replaced by more reasonable Numbers like 0 to 200 with beeing 100 in
the Middle. So it would be easier to get a feel for them.

10. Importance, Urgency and maybe Effort should optional be visible in
the line of an task. It could be a number or maybe better some tiny
vertical bar (like progressbar) with showing concrete numbers while
hovering with the mousepointer above.

I hope at least some features were new and will be appreciated by
other users and the developers. Keep up the good work!

Alexandra

[MLO] User's Guide PPC

Is there still no user's guide for PPC available?

Where can we find what is working in the new PPC version, and how
otherwise?

[MLO] Re: Lifebalance features into MLO + alternatives

2009-06-08 Thread scoobie

One of the big differences between MLO and Life balance is the graphs,
pie charts feature in LB.
Its been much requested (by me) for MLO.
The best response I've seen is MLO will get statistics at some point
in the future.

[MLO] Lifebalance features into MLO + alternatives

2009-06-08 Thread Dirk

Hi,

Currently looking at GTD tools, but as this is a new area for me, I
have two questions and hope someone can assist:

1/ Does anyone have insight whether LifeBalance features can be fully
handled in MLO, and whether the same effective and efficient screens
approach can be achieved through or is planned for future inclusion
into MLO?

2/ Re alternatives, anybody knows of a published shortlist of the best
or most competitive package out of the + 100 GTD apps?

Many thanks in advance!

Dirk

[MLO] MLO for Blackberry

2009-06-08 Thread Harry

Evernote just added a Blackberry client - here's what they said about
that - makes it appealing for MLO surely?

"The past few weeks can be summed up in one word: HUGE. First, we
launched our single most requested version: Evernote for BlackBerry.
Then, we passed one million users! On top of all that, we won the
Webware 100 Editor's Choice Award."

[MLO] Considering Buying MLO

2009-06-08 Thread walter7890

Hi, I am considering buying MLO, it is easy to use, just played with
it for a couple of days so far.

One enhancement I am looking for is WYSIWYG printing in the outline
tab (color and all).

Is this available?
