[MLO] Re: suggestion: Shift-Drop from Outlook to MLO

2014-11-19 Thread robert roszak

I get "The operating system denied access to the specified file" when I
click the link MLO automatically has created on the top of note field of
the task. I guess it's my system's fault rather than MLO itself. What
setting should I change to get it working?

[MLO] Re: New User: Feature Questions * Rich Text Update?

2014-11-19 Thread robert roszak
Rich text formatting is absolute must-have for a software of this class!
I'm wondering how come this issue hasn't be properly addressed yet.
Changing field's property to html text would solve this issue completely
but - unfortunately - as everything in MLO environment it takes way too
much time.

[MLO] Re: Formatting Notes

2014-11-19 Thread Metta Zetty
Thanks for your prompt feedback, Dwight. I do appreciate your confirmation
since I had not found a way to make the cut-and-paste work (FYI, I didn't
spend much time on it at all after the 1st attempt didn't work.)

Also, FWIW, I have created a work-around for the plain text notes that I'm
testing now, and so far it seems to be working pretty well.

I am a huge fan of TheBrain software which includes a web-based option for
accessing all the data in any "brain" (database) you create. TheBrain also
includes the option to create notes with full text formatting, tables, etc
-- http://thebrain.com/

What I've been doing is this:
-- For MLO tasks that don't require any note formatting, I simply use the
plain text editor provided in MLO.
-- For tasks that include more data and require more complex formatting
(including bullets, tables, highlights, color and bold text), I simply
create my formatted note in TheBrain, and then put a link to this brain
note in my MLO.

Because TheBrain provides both local and web-based URLs for every note you
create, I could actually use either type of link. However, since I run MLO
from within Dropbox and I access it from 2 different computers, I've opted
to use the web-based version of the brain links and this allows me to
access my formatted notes in TheBrain from whatever computer I'm on.

I realize this work-around may not be an option for some people given the
cost of maintaining a webbrain account:

However, for me TheBrain, and access to it from the web, are both
indispensable -- and, paired now with MLO, this is now, without a doubt,
the very best task and information management solution I've ever had.

Hope this helps others who are looking for a formatted note work-around! :-D

[MLO] Re: What is the Inbox? I have searched help, the manual and this forum. Confusing?

2014-11-19 Thread Metta Zetty
In the classic productivity model of Getting Things Done (GTD), the Inbox
is the place where you initially drop in all new, unclassified (unsorted)
data: thoughts, ideas, tasks, etc. It is ideal for your initial "brain
dump", i.e., emptying out data you are holding in your head. It is also a
great place to send data you add into the database using the Rapid Text
Entry window.

Once items have been placed in the Inbox, you can then access each of these
Inbox items either from the Inbox view or in the Outline view -- and then
you can add:
-- all the additional classifying data for each task (date due, context,
importance, urgency, flags, stars) and
-- any additional customization options available in the properties windows
(reminders, formatting, etc.)

In addition, from the Outline view you can also drag Inbox items into other
folders or projects as needed to keep everything properly sorted.

I, myself, use the Inbox all the time, as my primary gateway for dropping
in data because:
-- I like to drop in tasks and ideas quickly while I'm working on other
things.
-- I customize my tasks heavily after they are added, and this takes more
time than simply using the Rapid Text Entry window first and then
customizing later
-- I also have a deeply nested outline with multiple folders and
sub-folders, so I prefer to file tasks away *after* dropping them into the
Inbox and then classifying/customizing them.

Hope this helps! :-)

Re: [MLO] Re: Undocumented features

2014-11-19 Thread Dwight Arthur
Hi, Stéph. My understanding of the double click is slightly different. First
of all, double click (like search and a few other functions) assues that your
first workspace shows the "all tasks" (outline) view. If this is not true, MLO
will sometimes open a new workspace with the all tasks view.

When you double click on a task in a workspace other than the first, MLO will
switch to the first workspace with the selected task highlighted. I believe
that this works well whether the originating view is hierarchical or flat and
whether it is filtered or not (in other words, not just to-do lists) This is
useful when you want to see where a task sits in your outline and look at its
parents, siblings and children. When you double click the task again MLO will
switch back to the workspace you started in with the selected task highlighted.
This is useful when you are done with your research and are ready to get back
to work.

It gets a little dicey when you double click a task in the all-tasks view and
you did _not_ use double click to come to all-tasks from some orher workspace.
I believe that MLO will make an attempt to find another workspace that includes
the selected task and switch there but I would not consider this to be robustly
reliable.

Hello Alex. I'm sure the first one is documented somewhere. If you

I have the first Workspace tab set up as the full outline and the second set up
as a flat to-do list (just like they used to be in MLO3 and older versions).
I'm not sure how the above works if you don't have your Workspaces set up like
that.
