[MLO] Rapid Task Entry for =tofld for folders with whitespace in the name not working?
I have a Folder structure: Work |_Work Misc Actions When I enter a task in the Rapid Task dialog such as: foobar task -tofld=Work Misc Actions It doesn't parse the whitespace, and the "foobar task" goes into the "Work" folder. I tried surrounding with "double quotes, didn't work. Is this a bug, or am I wrong with my Rapid Task Entry nomenclature? -Brian -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group. [MLO] Re: Is there any options to store views?
Yes, this is a pain. Especially when you start customizing your views (a lot of her do) with Advanced filters. You have to make the same filters on desktop and mobile, they don't sync. So I have a whole separate backup strategy for MLO. I use MLO built in Backup feature to copy to my Dropbox folder, so that's nice and automatic. Then on mobile, if I make significant changes to my views, I email a backup, and take that attachment of the view file in the email, and save it to my Dropbox. A pain, but necessary so you don't have redo the views if something happen. Would be great if it call could sync with MLO Cloud, especially Desktop custom views with mobile. I think they are close in feature parity now, so maybe this is forthcoming down the road. -Brian On Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 9:00:12 AM UTC-5, robisme (Olivier R) wrote: > > Yes you can, but unfortunately it's not seemlessly incorporated in the > cloud sync subscription. > You have to first export your view (right click on the view's name in the > left panel), and import it in your other device (if windows : right click > on any view, and import view". Re: [MLO] tasks with multiple context don't hide one of the context is closed
Thanks Dwight. I did some digging in this group and found a thread where you assisted someone else with this issue via Advanced filtering, which I use for many of my views so I am familiar with it. I got the following advanced filter working well for me in my Today view. The only issue is that with this view, the "Include closed" checkbox does not seem to work to show the closed contexts, which I think has to do with my logic. But, I am fine with that, since I created another custom view to show only my "~evening-weekday" and "~weekend" tasks at any time, ignoring the context hours. So I think I have this overall work now how I want. This is great, as now my "Today" view really only shows me things I can do right now. And I don't have to put start date/times on everything individually to get my weeknight/weekend items off my daytime view until the right time. This is my first attempt at using closed hours, I like it! <https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-QvoTvm0z1ig/WL7XIMUGOHI/SNk/qaCAiZ7NC-0tCblk7tiNfoVG1QI2SFUNwCLcB/s1600/ScreenShot-2017-Mar-07-1050-AM.png> On Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 10:07:42 AM UTC-5, Dwight wrote: > > Brian, there are proposals for change to this floating around, but the > way it is currently configured, a task if active if it has no context > assigned, or if there is at least one context assigned and at least one > assigned context is currently open. > > If one assigned context is "always open" then the task is always active. > > If you have three nearby pharmacies with three different schedules, and > you define a context for each one with open times that match the > pharmacy's hours of operation, and you assign all three contexts to a > task, the task will be active whenever any pharmacy is open > > If you want to make a call in the evening, and you have an ~evening > context, but you want to mark the task as a call for efficient use of > your time when you are near a phone, then @calls should be always > closed. [MLO] tasks with multiple context don't hide one of the context is closed
I've noticed that if I have an context, say ~evening, that is closed until 5pm, it will hide the task properly. If I have context ~evening and another context that is not closed, then my view doesn't hide the task. It only hides the task if the closed context is the only context assigned. Is this by design? Is there a way to hide tasks with multiple context, one of them being closed? I guess I see the issue...what if I have lots of context, some open/closed, different times, etc. Hmm, maybe I just answered my own question then, how would MLO know what to hide or not hide. -Brian -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group. Question, if on one Windows machine, I have Outlook Sync enabled, and I also have MLO Cloud sync going. On the 2nd Windows machine, will I see the Outlook sync settings in it's local .ml file? I actually hope the answer is no, as I only want the Outlook sync to happen on one client/.ml file. -Brian -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group. [MLO] plans for next version on MLO for Android

[MLO] Re: What I really LIKE about MyLifeOrganized!
I have decided to basically settle on MLO after a long track of bouncng between various GTD apps, looking for the perfect environment. I always seem to come back to MLO, as soon after I move away from it, I miss various features other GTD apps are missing. It always seems MLO's pluses far out-weight it's negatives, chiefly being MLO being only on the Windows platform. This reason is often why I decided to move away, but the functionality and usability is so rich, I always come back. Granted I use both Windows (at work) and a Mac at home, I do have a full personal license of Windows that I run in a Parallels VM. So that cost of needing a Windows license if you're on a Mac, and the cost of the hypervisor, is surely a barrier for entry for many if your Mac only. I get that. But, that being said, Mac users need to find a way to trial MLO, you'll be surprised how much better it is that most Mac GTD apps out there. Same goes for Web-based GTD apps. Specifically, I favor MLO for a variety of reasons, this applies to the mobile app(s) as well. I use Android, so my comparisons below for mobile are based off Android. the iOS iPhone (and soon to be iPad) versions have leap-frogged Android somewhat in the visuals, but I still find MLO for Android pretty much superior to most of the other Android Task/GTD apps on the Play Store: - Parallel/sequential project/tasks/subtasks, aka "Complete subtasks in order". Anytime I try another task app that doesn't have this, I realize I cannot live without it. Also, being able to hide any task/subtask at will, also great - start date implementation (tickler, if you will). I live and die by start dates, and the fact that the default Acitve filter is that both the start date AND start time have to ellapse is phenomenal. Most other apps that implment start dates/ticklers only use the date, and not time. For me using start times (or having the option to) is crictical. During the work-week, I always have tons of tasks I need to do when I leave the office or at home, and I don't want even see them until mayb 4:30pm...I want to keep my distractions down. - Reminders, tons of options, syncs to mobile devices. And you get local Windows notification, not just an email. - This has been said MANY times by others on this Group, and is one of the main unique feature of MLO, which is the Outline & Todo modes. Most GTD and/or advanced task apps one or the other, but not both. And the way they work together in MLO is superb. In other tasks apps, I usually have to use mutliple contexts and/or tags, along with, if the task app is GTD based, an Areas of Focus category. In MLO, the Outline mode gives you ultimate flexibility, and you don't then need to overburden you tasks with a million tags (contexts) to organize. But then you can see you Active Actions as a todo, and further break htat down view Stars, and filters/views. Yet you know when you look at your Todo list views, behind the scenes everything is organized ultimately in the Outline. - Related, the configuration and options to set up the views, workspaces, etc, is unparalleled. Other apps might call it saveed searches or something, but MLO's flexibility to set up either an outline or todo view with the filter/view options is again unique to anything I've seen elsewhere. - Importance/Urgency "score calculation", as it factors into Active Actions ordering combined with dates (I don't use the Goals feature, but that calculates as well). This is much more advanced (and better) then simply High, Medium, Low. - Project implementation. I love the In Progress, Suspended, Not Started, etc. THat's how I have my Project view setup by those categories. I love the % calcualation, taking into consideration the "Effort" value if yo uput one in. Love how on both Windows and mobile you get the blue bar for how far along you are. I love how you can send a prepend string ([PROJECT: ]) so you clearly know in your Todo list view this is a project task. Again, I've seen no other GTD app implement projects as good as this. - recurrence options. by due or completion date - Rapid task entry dialog. Love how you can just bang-out a quick list right into the Inbox. Or, you can use it's lexicon to categorize and move the tasks into where you want them to be in the Outline. - automatatic formatting. This is just plain awesome... I can see which tasks are NEW, have notes, etc. I've totally customized this for myself, adding icons into MLO for Evernote, Gmail, Outlook, so I can quickly see if tasks have assoicated permalinks. I can quickly tell how many Evernote links I have by scrolling my eyes down the Icons column - Dragging Outlook emails as tasks, with link back to Outlook email. - Keyboard shortcuts - general speed of the app. - cloud sync. I do wish on Android it would sync automatically in the background thought :-/ - location based contexts/reminders on Android - Ther

[MLO] Re: MLO or Omnifocus?
Fabulous question! Actually, I am/was a long time Omnifocus user, but am now on MLO (I do use Windows at work, so that factored into it of course). But after using MLO for about 6 months, and even trying other Web based services recently like Iqtell, Zendone, and Todoist, I have found nothing, I mean, nothing, that even comes close to the breath of functionality, speed, and usability of MLO. For almost every feature the other GTD apps lack, MLO has. I am in the process of writing a LONG post in the "why I like MLO" thread, that will explain this is in detail. Yeah, I would love for MLO to have a Mac, or probably better yet, Web UI version, but nonetheless, MLO is so good, it's woth virtualizing it on a Mac (or Linux) in some way (Crossovers, Parallels, VMware Fusion or Workstation). Unfortunately, that means additional $$ to spend on these hypervisors and/or a Windows license. Aaron, keep an eye out in the pinned thread about "Why I like MLO" for more details. -Brian On Sunday, December 15, 2013 6:48:26 AM UTC-5, Aaron wrote: > > I am a new GTDer and I am using MLO Trail Version for several days. [MLO] filtering out Not Started and Suspended Project actions from Active Actions view
As I am starting using Projects more (love the ability to see % complete with the calculated Effort parameter...its great), and I do have projects that are not sequential, I notice that actions under a Folder/Project that has a status of of Not Started or Suspended are showing up under my default Active Actions view. Changing the view to only show Next Actions doesn't help, as Next actions from those Not Started or Suspended Projects still show up. In my mind, a Project I've classified as Suspended or Not Started should not have next actions show as active. Is there a way to manipulate this? I tried some Advanced queries but could not seem to get what I want. Re: [MLO] quick way to see your tasks that have Evernote links
Thanks Dwight. The file: is not working, throwing some strange error. No matter though, as I'm running MLO in a Parallels VM on a Mac, so don't want it opening up anyhow in Evernote for Windows. Now if I could find a way to open it on Evernote for Mac, that would be cool. The advantage to just using the https:// link is I can then quickly see the note on my mobile device via the browser. [MLO] quick way to see your tasks that have Evernote links
Just a little tip. When I have a MLO task with an associated Evernote note, I have a share link in the notes field (the one you generate by sharing, so you get an https://. The evernote:/// doesn't work). So I setup an automatic formatting condition that anything in the Notes field with a https://www.evernote.com/shard text, gets a special Icon. I imported an Evernote ico that I found, I've attached it here for folks to use. This is nice, because as long as I show the Icon column, I can quickly see which tasks have Evernote links. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group. [MLO] Omnifocus user about to make the jump to MLO
Well, I've been using Omnifocus on and off for about 3 years, leaving to try other Mac-based task management apps, always coming back to Omnifocus at some point. I always wanted more the what Omnifocus gave, and while Perspectives were great, I still felt I wanted more "tweak-ability" for I wanted my system to work. Somehow came across MLO recently even though it's Windows, and decided to try the Professional trial (I'm on day 4 now I think). WOW. I mean, this thing is unbelievably configurable! That fact that it's on Windows is not bugging me too much, since I already run Parallels 8 on my Macbook Air for other work-related things. I am totally (so far) blown away by the functionality, and how smooth it runs. I'm getting the Outline/To-do list split w/o much issue, and setting up my views, filters, etc. REALLY seeing the power of the outline mode(s), and the task dependencies are much more adavanced then Omnifocus. My only hold-back (slightly) is that right now, I feel the iOS iPhone app (I use an iPhone and iPad) is not somewhat not up to snuff. The fact that it's not iPhone 5 screen optimized is annoying for sure, and also that custom views don't come over, and general navigation is...ehh..right now. ALthough I saw in the forum here that a new iPhone app is soon to be released (any confirmation of that, and changes/release notes so we know generally what's coming), which is giving me hope, because I am ALWAYS on my iPhone. I shelled out the $10 for the iPhone app, and am waiting a little bit to try the iPad all ($20). This is very important for me, because I am on my iPhone ALL the time, and need a better experience. Sounds like the recent hires of iOS development is a statement of it's forthcoming releases and changes. That being said, my Windows trial is going very well, and I am very happy so far, I can't believe it's taken me this long to find MLO (probably 'cuz I focused only on Mac apps), it's by far the most configurable system I have experienced, feature rich, and even in a VM, runs like "butter" on my system. I also am impressed with the community (I've browsed the forum and even posted a question with lightning quick responses). Also the longevity of this app gives me confidence this could be my new trusted system (especially if a new iPhone app is on it's way :-) ) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group. [MLO] Column order not being saved for default Active Actions view?
New to MLO (in the trial right now...). When I add columns to the Active Actions view (Start Date, Context, etc.), and go to Outline and back, the column order I set is not saved. I tried going into the filter settings and saving, but it always reverts to an ordering I don't want. -Brian -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MyLifeOrganized" group.
