[MLO] How to use multiple intances

2014-09-27 Thread Alexis
Workspaces are nice but in the end all you see is only one list at the
time. Sometimes for comparing or copying taks it´s useful to see more than
one list at the time. Especially if the task does not appear on your
current list. For this to happen you open another instance of MLO.

At least that´s what i thought. But although i checked the Multiple
instances Checkbox i don´t know how to open the same file twice.
How is it done?

BTW, is there a possiblilty to export settings (not just a theme) to use
on another machine.

Thank You
Alex

RE: [MLO] How to use multiple intances

2014-09-27 Thread Dwight Arthur
Hi, Alex. There may be a way to open two instances of a single profile but I
don’t know it, and I suspect that there’s probably not a way. I use multiple
instances when I am working with multiple files, which isn’t often.

In order to compare or copy between views I would recommend using the “helper
window” – my name for it, MLO calls it “open workspace in new window.” Open one
view and hit F3. MLO opens a new window showing the task list from your view.
In the main window, open the second view. Both windows are “live” – you can
mark tasks complete, rename them, add and remove stars, flags, contexts, due
dates, etc. The helper window however is just a task list. No other tabs, no
command bar, no view properties panel and no task properties panel. In the
helper window, you can change any task property that’s viewable and editable in
the body of the task list (like GOAL, assuming that the GOAL field is shown in
your view) but not those that require the use of the properties panel, like
recurrence or dependencies. Hint: make sure that all of the fields you want to
view or edit are displayed in your task list *before* hitting F3. Helper window
is _great_ at dragging and dropping between views.

Regarding export, here is a chart I saw in the beta testers discussion forum.
The chart was posted by user and beta tester TimV. I’m not a user of export and
cannot offer any guidance but the chart might help. If you are looking for a
single meta-export that would create a single export file with all of this
stuff in it, the answer is, this is not available.

So even in the future the im-, ex-port of Hotkeys is not planned. Strange!
