Yes, you can configure it that way: menu: Tools\Options\Themes and Formatting\Formatting\Date and Time Format\tab General: uncheck all the four boxes: Use "Today" - Use "Tomorrow" - Use "Yesterday" - Use Week Days for the current week.
By the way, look also on the tab Advanced (menu: Tools\Options\Themes and Formatting\Formatting\Date and Time Format\Advanced): on the section "Use other format if date within..." you can set the range for the default format "R".
