Re: Under utilization of CPU by MySQL

2007-10-29 Thread Devi
no.. i had an impression that the slowness can be perfectly measured only if i
have very less idle CPU.. My worries how to make MySQL to utilize the fullest
CPU time.. either in User/Nice mode.

Thanks

Hi Devi,
If idle time is around 37%, it means your cpu is 63% utilized. It again
depends on what kind of query is running on ur system.

Can u also please check %us, %wa and %sy.
%us will give amount cpu utilized by any applicaiton running on the
machine.

%wa will give amount of wait io.

%sys will give cpu utilized by system kernal.

Hello friends,

I'm using MySQL5 on RHEL5. From the top, i understood that the CPU is under
utlized by MySQL, whose idle time is around 37%. It is dedicated box for MySQL

Re: mysqldump for myisam tables.

2007-06-15 Thread Devi

HI
You can use
$mysqldump dbname table1 [,table2,table3] >dumpfile[path] or $ mysqldump
dbname > dumpfile [path]

or
$ mysqldump --all-databases >dumpfile [path]

--opt will Add a DROP TABLE statement before each CREATE TABLE, Uses the
multiline INSERT syntax,Locks all tables on the server before starting the
dump and unlocks the same.

--opt is default.

Re: How to overwrite existing file with SELECT .. INTO?

Hello Mike,

AFAIK,
What you have specified is applicable only for tables! But for file in
"Select ..into outfile", sure Exit handler is declared when we try to
overwrite an existing file!

Amer,
Why can't you do:

drop table if exists mynewtable;select .. into mynewtable

Setting up multiple daemons

2007-02-12 Thread Devi

Hi MySQLeers,

How can I setup multiple daemons, One daemon for one database? So that
they can act independenly. What might be the pitfalls over here?

In what situation one can opt for multiple daemons?
What about maximum_connections. Is it for all the server instances?

Thanks

RE: turn off auto commit in MYSQL

2002-11-14 Thread Devi Annisetty
Hi Peter,

Thank you very much
I got one more question
Do I need to change the table type to transaction-safe tables (InnoDB
and BDB) ?
AS I am going thru the manuals I read that tables should be of InnoDB
or BDB inorder to work for manual commit.

once again thanks in advance,
Devi

ENUM Data Type

2002-10-22 Thread Devi Annisetty
Hi,

I have table called Media_table which has column Media_type. The data
for Media type can be any of the "Movie","Trailer","Flash","Music"
etc(almost fixed, not expected to change in near future,Or even if it
changes also very minor updations very rarely).

I thinking of two possibilities here

1. either to use the code table for the Media_type and join this table
to Media_table(since its a Database standard) =20

2. use ENUM data type istead of code table.

Performance is critical issue for the project.

SO I am unable to decide which option should I go for.I have no clear
Idea of all odd's of each option.

If its other database like oracle 7.X/8 I would have used code tables
itself, as they don't have any data type like ENUM.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.=20
