RE: Aborted connection error on RedHat 7

Be so kind and read the archives :-). Do you happen to use PHP? If so, get
the newest release from http://snaps.php.net. You should be fine then.

Isn't it possible the virus itself was actually removed by the mailserver
antivirus software? Can anybody confirm this just for we could feel more
safe? My Outlook 2000 shows the message and the attachment, but the
attachment is a text file with mailing list footer information - just like
something in the middle was removed and the rest of mail attached.

No, you can scroll through your input lines using Up and Down Arrow, then
you can edit the particular line using Left and Right Arrow and Backspace.
At least this is a way things are supposed to work on a terminal.

How did you do it? It's almost impossible...

Go to http://www.deja.com/home_ps.shtml and in the 'enter keywords' field
type 'error reading communication packets'. Then click 'search'. You'll get
about 300 articles on the subject, some with the answer for your question...

As far as PHP is concerned, 4.0.4pl1 is not enough. You need to install CVS
version later than 2001-01-18. At least this is my experience.

RE: [PHP-DEV] RE: mysql_pconnect still broken (was: RE: What does this mean ?)

2001-01-17 Thread Maciek Uhlig

I think you might be interested in some feedback after the newest PHP
snapshot with a fix was installed here.

The "Aborted connection ... (Got an error reading communication packets)"
messages disappeared. This may seem as expected behaviour. However there is
one additional point worth mentioning:

In order to get rid of these annoying messages it is _not_ sufficient to
install lastly fixed PHP. In order to get rid of them I had to compile the
newest PHP snapshot with MySQL 3.23 (3.23.27-beta or 3.23.28-gamma) client
library instead 3.22 (3.22.25) one which was used before till today
(releases between them, as well as PHP bundled client, were not tested :-)).
I thought it may be interesting for some - and for the record.

Thank you, Steven and Zeev :-)

mysql_pconnect still broken (was: RE: What does this mean ?)

2001-01-16 Thread Maciek Uhlig

OK. Look at a quick report. I've just installed php4-200101152345. It runs
with mysql-3.23.27-beta. Apache 1.3.12, Solaris 2.6 (local host) and 2.4
(remote connection).

What I can see is: the offending messages didn't vanish at all (both hosts
are involved):

010116 20:52:30 Aborted connection 36021 to db: '***' user: '***' host:
`***' (Got an error reading communication packets)

So, I think it's not fixed yet. Steven, you wrote about 99,8. I suppose
every Apache process here makes this error while ending. I just see it.

Steven, thank you for your efforts. Hope you can fix even that. Please let
me know about patches: I'll happily test them. I'm not able to fix it by
myself, but I'd like at least be helpful.

RE: What does this mean ?

2001-01-16 Thread Maciek Uhlig

That is what I suspected. I suffer the same.

The problem is buggy PHP persistent connection code. The "almost good"
solution was presented to PHP people by Steven Roussey
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=php-dev&m=97562841130973&w=2) and
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=php-dev&m=97858730928909&w=2) and according
to Andi Gutmans
(http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=php-dev&m=97858932431876&w=2) the patch was
committed to PHP CVS.

However the patch is absent even from PHP 4.0.4pl1 (its zend_list.c is dated
2000-10-20). You might try to patch your PHP by yourself. Or try the latest
snapshot from http://snaps.php.net (though I don't know if the patch is
there).

Sincerely speaking I don't know why Steven's patches haven't been
incorporated into PHP 4.0.4pl1. Maybe Andi (Cc:ed) could explain this?

RE: Your favorite Windows MySQL GUI client?

2001-01-15 Thread Maciek Uhlig

Although it is not strictly speaking Windows MySQL GUI client, I'd like to
recommend PHPGen (http://opensource.aventus.org/phpgen/phpgen.html) .

It meets all your criteria, but it's not a client, but rather PHP client
program generator. If you happen to have PHP with your webserver, give it a
try. And yes, the generated client runs under Windows - in a browser
window...
