PHP/MySQL connetion query

Hello,
While granting permissions to particular user, the administrator has to give
username@machine_address !! Then how can we connect to MySQL only by passing
"username" as one of the arguments to mysql_connect() ?

Hi Guru's,

We say MySQL is open source database, so it can easily be adjusted to your
requirements. But I wonder how many administrators have actually gone into
the source code and made any modifications to match their specific needs, if
any. If no, then why is MySQL better than other databases available in
market, if we leave the cost alone.
I do not intend to challenge MySQL, but just wanted to know how this elite
group can help someone if such a need arises !! Has anyone other than the
core development team tried any changes before ??

Where do you want to install .. on 1) Unix like OS or 2) windows or 3) any
other?
For 1 goto http://www.mysql.com/downloads/mysql-3.23.html and all RPM's are
present under heading Linux Downloads
For 2 server/client programs are all present in the .zip file on SAME site
(under Windows Downloads)

Why only port 3306 is used by MySQL? Is there some standard used like used
for FTP, localhost ports ?

installation prob.

Hi Gurus,
I just now reinstalled MySQL Ver 4.0.1 on Linux Mandrake 7.2 on Intel P III
m/c using the RPM available at MySQL website. The installation got through
w/o any prolem, but it gives "Segmentation Fault" - core dumped when I run
MySQLADMIN. I have followed all the post-installation steps given in the
manual.

Kindly guide, thanks in adv.

features like Schema-less logins, single sign on, preserving user identity
and like in light of MySQL.
