RE: Linux vs. Windows?

2005-08-12 Thread Patrick Fowler
Folks,

Go with what you know best. If you are a good Windows admin etc go with
windows. If you are a good Linux/Unix admin go with Linux. What little
performance gain from one or the other will be lost if you do not run a
tight ship all around. Performance and stability goes way beyond what
OS is better. Don't let anyone push you in one direction if you are
more comfortable with the other OS. If you have little exposure with
both I would say Linux. Not because it may or may not outperform
windows just because once you learn it it's under your belt.

 Same machine, any performance difference?

InnoDB

2004-01-22 Thread Patrick Fowler
Folks,

Is InnoDB activated by default in MySQL V4 or V4max? Do I have to
compile from source with the innoDB flag in order to use the innoDB
tables or just in stall the RPM?

MS Exchange Email?

2002-10-01 Thread Patrick Fowler

Hello,

Is there a way to have email from an email account on a MS Exchage Server be
populated into MySQL. I can to this by connecting to the exchange server
with MS Access and then push the data from access into the MySQL table. I
would like not to have to use MS Access. Thanks for any help.

Output to a file?

2002-09-26 Thread Patrick Fowler

Hello,

I'm new to MySQL. I've been able to query the database via PHP and display
it within a html page. I would like to out put the results to a flat file
tab delimited instead of onto a new page.

Thanks for any help.

Moving from MS-SQL to MySQL

2002-09-17 Thread Patrick Fowler

Hello,

We are thing about moving from MS-SQL to MySQL. We are in the very early
planning of creating a data warehouse. Does anyone have any information
regarding the +/- of using MySQL vs MS-SQL. The db will at most be 20gb
with about 100 users.

A few questions would be:
Is there a way to authenticate users without with their win2k login and not
have to type in the login/passwd again?
Is MySQL as flexable as MS-SQL with scheduling task and process.

DB = MySQL
OS = RH Linux 7.3
HW = New IBM xSeries hardware.

Thanks for any information you may provide.
