apologies if this is documented somewhere, but i have found much of the material confusing. I am attempting to build mysql-3.23.39 on a sun Solaris 2.6 box, with the languages / utilities installed. 1. perl5.6.1 2. GNUmake 3. GNUm4 4. GNUtar 5. apache1.3.19 6. autoconf-2.13 7. automake-1.4 8. gawk-3.0.4 9. bison-1.28 through documentation i can see there are a number of ways to install the mysql 1. compile the source (currently i am using this), but i have hit problems that suggest i don't have the relevant C++ libraries for my gcc complier. a. Installing the libstdc++-2.8.1.1 should rectify this? compiling the source for this is a problem , producing unhelpful errors after a lengthy configure process. if somebody can provide docs on how to install these libraries successfully i would be keen to hear about, either as the precompiled binaries or the source code. b. mysql documentation recommends that " In this case, you can remove the code in `configure' that tests for the C++ compiler and then run `./configure' with the `--without-server' option" - can anybody throw light on what the without server option is about? 2. use binaries (not used yet).
