If you suspect congestion of this type, the simplest way to checj is to
issue a traceroute mysql.com command from terminal
(Unix/Linux/MacOS X/etc) or command prompt (Windows).

Here is an example of the result.

I should have been clearer. I can't reach the website. I can get to
lists.mysql.com with no problem except for the fact that images won't
pull form www.mysql.com but I definitely come to a grinding halt when I
try to reach www.mysql.com. I can't do a tracert because the university
has shut that off here. But I guess it is working for everyone else.

Does anyone know what is going on with the MySQL website?

It appears to be undergoing a major redesign. The sections appear to be
organized differently and the style sheets have also changed.

Or did you have something else in mind?

I'm experiencing similar problems - using both Mozilla and IE.

'wget' eventually got the HTML but it took nearly 2 minutes.
The headers don't suggest anything strange.
This is also a University site with 'traceroute' disabled and everything
accessed through a cache.
www.netcraft.com's site analysis also doesn't suggest anything untoward.

No, it's accessible as usual. But with Firefox, only at the second try.
Could also be a browser problem, I'm using an older nightly build.

pull form www.mysql.com but I definitely come to a grinding
  halt when I
try to reach www.mysql.com. I can't do a tracert because
  the university
has shut that off here. But I guess it is working for everyone else.

I'm experiencing similar problems - using both Mozilla and IE.

'wget' eventually got the HTML but it took nearly 2 minutes.
The headers don't suggest anything strange.

This is also a University site with 'traceroute' disabled and
  everything
  accessed through a cache.

www.netcraft.com's site analysis also doesn't suggest
  anything untoward.

Does anyone know what is going on with the MySQL website?

It appears to be undergoing a major redesign. The sections
  appear to be
organized differently and the style sheets have also changed.

Or did you have something else in mind?

No, it's accessible as usual. But with Firefox, only at the second try.
Could also be a browser problem, I'm using an older nightly build.

using a search engine w/ a mysql website

2001-10-18 Thread Chris Blessing

Hi all-

Sooner or later I'll be in charge of databasing our site (no, it's not
already databased). That's a good thing, I've really been pushing for it.
However, I'm a bit confused on how to go about searching the site. I'm not
sure if I want to go the indexing/crawling route where some app regularly
goes out and hops links all over our site, compiling a searchable index, or
if I want to use something that searches the database directly.

Have you had any experience with something like this, and if so, could you
point me to some prospective products (or give some suggestions) to take a
look at?

Thanks!

2001-10-18 Thread Deryck Henson

Well, if you mean searching for INFO stored in a DB, just use LIKE syntax or
FULLTEXT index. If you mean searching your site, use the
FileSystemObject(in ASP). Email for details
