you can do that using OS command, any specific reason u want to use stored proc to get this information. If windows u can use dir file_name Volume in drive C has no label. If there is a need to know the datetime of the last mod to a table, that info ought to be in a column in a table. It sounds like you are using a procedural language to call MySQL.
