Hello!

i'd like to ask...
if any of you are familar with (File Maker Pro, most recent
versions)... how does one go about using MySQL to create a printable
report? e.g., where you select the fields you wanted in the report
and then create a layout and page setup for the report, (then print
it)?

G Thanks again.
G (Mac OS 9 or X)

I use for it Siag office - look to http://siag.nu/
For example look to this screenshot http://siag.nu/siag/mysql.png

i untarred the siag app (very cool, hope it'll work) and dropped in
my home dir.
then i ran ./configure, make and make install...
i got:

checking host system type... configure: error: can not guess host
type; you must specify one
configure: error: ./configure failed for XawM
[ichi:~/apps/siag-3.4.9] ichi% make

the readme says:

Usually `configure' can figure that out, but if it prints
a message saying it can not guess the host type, give it the
`--host=TYPE' option. TYPE can either be a short name for the system
type, such as `sun4', or a canonical name with three fields:
  CPU-COMPANY-SYSTEM

dumb question: what do i put for macintosh G4/450 OS X?

TIA

I all case you need 3 things - X Window, gcc, Mysql.
I use Siag on OS/2, MS Windows and all Unixes - so it's
will work with MacOS X.

ALL 'directional' aids are welcome... books, websites, tips, personal

Re: reports? from MySQL

2001-08-28 Thread j.urban

If you're accessing via Windows, you can use MyODBC and a reporting
package such as Crystal Reports or Quick Reports or just about any
ODBC-compliant reporting package. You should also be able to link MS
Access to your MySQL database...

For simple reports where you just want to print some data, you can use a
tool like urSQL (http://www.urbanresearch.com/ursql) and MyODBC to build
your query and then export the results. Results can be exported to HTML,
Text, Excel, etc...

Re: Best way to generate laser-printed reports from mysql

2001-03-26 Thread Adam Stein

I am wondering how most users generate reports from mysql that they can print
on a laser printer (e.g. invoices)? HTML is fine if the report is only 1 page
long. I guess some people user something like Crystal Reports via ODBC, but I
 wonder what most people do???

I use StarOffice.

Use Crystal Reports :-)? Depends on (a) how professional you need the
reports to be, and (b) how much you can afford..

But more seriously, you *could* create a layout for "tbl" (part of GNU
"groff", available for all POSIX platforms and even NT via the cygwin port),
and generate output using that template:

  .TS H
  page-header specs
  .TH
  other header specs.
  header lines
body lines-- generate this using MySQL
  .TE

And then run all this through "tbl" followed by "groff". Haven't tried this
myself in this particular combination, but having used tbl in the past, I
don't see any major conceptual problems with it. It's free, but needs some
elbow grease to get it to work..

A "tbl" reference is at
http://www.primate.wisc.edu/software/troffcvt/tbl.html.

This question strikes a chord with me also. I started looking to see if
there is any Perl modules/Bundles/Packages for generating postscript
reports.
What I have found is fairly primative. Does anybody have any
suggestions??
