An alternative, open source solution that i've been using, since I was
having a hard time getting the wireless NIC going in Linux, is this:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/

and more specifically:

http://wrt-wiki.bsr-clan.de/index.php?title=Wireless_Bridge

Let the two wireless routers do all the work, and a simple 3' cable
and standard wired network card.

I've been seeing this as well. I did a search on the forum, and found
similar problems that seemed to be fixed by doing an error check on
the mythconverg database, and then re-commercial flagging the shows.
After doing all that, my problem did not go away, so I'm very curious
to see what may fix this, as it has essentially broken the commercial
flagging. BTW, I get variation now anywhere from 30 min to 1 1/2 hrs
for a 1 hr show.

Re: Tuner will only record one channel (was Re: [mythtv-users] Re: No sound after apt-get upgrade)

2005-01-29 Thread Andy Rabin
I think I've tracked this down, but if anybody can confirm that my
theory is right, or have any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. This
afternoon, while I was busy trying to get my sound working, I rebooted
my computer while my wife had a show scheduled to record. That show
was on channel 51. This evening, trying to track down the problem, I
switched the priorities between my two cards, forcing myth to record
off of card 0, instead of 1. When it is recording off card 0, live tv
is playing through card 1. In live tv on card 1, when I change the
channel, I still only see what is on channel 51. Is my tuner card
broken? Or could something else be causing this?

Thanks,
Andy

Tuner will only record one channel (was Re: [mythtv-users] Re: No sound after apt-get upgrade)

2005-01-29 Thread Andy Rabin
Adding

alias msp3400 msp3400-ivtv

to my /etc/modules.conf now seems to give me sound all the time, so
I'm almost back to a perfect state for my system. The only problem I
have left is that no matter what channel I set the system to record,
it only records channel 51. I've tried several different channels
now, and no matter what, it's always the same channel. Any thoughts?

Andy

2005-01-29 Thread Andy Rabin
Well, I fixed the sound problem that was system wide, and now have
sound both out of mythtv and in it. Unfortunately, the sound isn't
always there in live tv, though changing channels seems to reassert
the sound on the stream. I haven't had a chance to try the
msp3400-ivtv fix yet, but I will post after I have a chance to do
that. One strange thing I've noticed though...since upgrading, all
the test recordings I've done have recorded channel 51, no matter what
channel I'm trying to record. This also seems to have started with my
upgrade last night. Any ideas?

I realize this probably isn't the right list for this now, but after
more digging around with the system today, it appears that my whole
install is pretty screwed up. The hat menu doesn't have any entries
in it, and kcontrol has nothing in it for me to modify. I'm not sure
what happened, but I'd be happy to post any logs or send this to a
different list if someone could just point me in the right direction!!

[mythtv-users] No sound after apt-get upgrade

2005-01-28 Thread Andy Rabin
I've been using my system for a few months now. After finally fixing
the video quality, the recordings timing got goofy on me. An hour
long show recorded would show that it was an hour and a half or
longer...but actually play the hour (less commercials : ) So I
figured before mailing the list, I'd make sure everything was upgraded
and give it a reboot. Now, I suddenly have no sound!!! I'm pretty
sure its a config that got screwed up somewhere, but I don't know
where to look. Recordings and live tv have the same problem, even
recordings that were made previously that i've seen with sound!!!

Please help!! Let me know what I should post info wise here, and I'll
be more than happy to.

System is FC1, running 2 PVR-250's, and lots of old hardware, but it
all worked before!!

I tried increasing the bitrate last night as high as 9000/10500, and
didn't notice any difference. I'll try chanigng the mpeg2 type
tonight and see if that helps.

[mythtv-users] Happy...but picture is grainy

2005-01-13 Thread Andy Rabin
I built my first myth system this past summer. It really is the
greatest thing since sliced bread...don't know how we lived with
commercials until now!!!

Now that my wife and I are getting used to it, thought, we've noticed
that the picture quality isn't *quite* the same as live tv. I've
tried increasing the resolutions in setup, but it doesn't seem to
change the slightly grainy appearance of the tv. Any thoughts? My
system specs are:

1Ghz Athalon processor
2 Hauppauge PVR-250's
Geforce 4 MX w/S-Video out
