I was able to get this up and running. Here is what i did that resolved
the issue. I think it was something in the database because i had done
all these steps (minus deleting the database) several times with no
luck.

Removing IVTV drivers

commenting out all referenct to IVTV in modprobe.conf

Deleting the mythconverg database

cold boot

re-install IVTV

un-comment modprobe.conf

run modprobe ivtv

re-install the mythconverge database

starting mythbackend

run the myth setup again and mythfilldatabase

mythfrontend

Hope this helps someone

[mythtv-users] no livetv and only records a single channel pvr150

2005-05-09 Thread Bradley Hennon
Please help!

Fedora core 3
PVR150
Myth 0.18

Everything was working fine. My daughter kicked my myth box power strip
and when i brought it back up i can no longer watch live tv and
recording only records one chanel.

When i select "Watch Live TV" I See video for 2 seconds then the video
freezes and myth returns me to the main screen. If i schedule a
recording it doesnt record the channel i selected instead it records
the same channel that i see when trying livetv. I also noticed that i
do not see any quide information on the screen like i used to when it
was working.

I have reset my card settings and redone them afterwords running mythfilldatabase.
I have removed and re-installed IVTV drivers using atrpms "at-testing"
I get the same result no matter what input i select in the capture card
settings in mythtvsetup. IN other words, i can select tuner1 or tuner0
or svideo and i always get the same result/ I see a couple seconds of
video then freeze.

Some have mentioned that they have fixed the issue by recording
something then returning to livetv and it starts to work. i have not
been so licky.

The sourceid of the card is "1" in the database

here is my mythfrontend output. I do not see any "IVTV" section in /var/log/messages (is this the right place?)

[mythtv-users] Could I have damaged my PVR 150 with the IVTV Drivers?

2005-04-25 Thread Bradley Hennon
I recently bought a PVR150. I installed the IVTV Drivers and the card
seemed to be working. Without cable or antenna hooked up i would get
static and static noise. I could pause and rewind the static so i went
ahead with the myth install/setup.

After a couple of reboots, i wanted to try it once more before moving
it to where my TV is and i got 2 seconds of static then it locked up
and after a few seconds of staring at a locked up screen, I was
returned to a Myth error screen "There was a problem with the video
input..."

After the error and a reboot i no longer had a "video0" in /dev/ . I
reloaded the drivers and got video0 back but the same thing happened
when i tested it.

I took out the card and put it in a windows XP machine and NO new
hardware was detected and nothing in the bios or device manager.

my question is - Could i have physically damaged the card by using the
"testing" IVTV Drivers? I dont think i have ever seen drivers damage a
peice of hardware but is it possible?

Thanks

I agree, I could get a larger hard drive but that would just be
increasing the time between restarts of mythbackend. I am happy with
the amount data i can get on the 40gb. I just want myth to handle the
data correctly

[mythtv-users] 2 questions - Running out of disk space and transcoding

2005-03-01 Thread Bradley Hennon
Running Myth .17
Athlon xp2200
512mb of ram
Hauppauge v4l card
40gb hard drive
nvidia gforce 4

1. I keep running out of disk space and am unable to record anything
new. Even if i delete ALL recordings, I am still out of space. I must
manually delete several .nuv files from my drive. Once deleted, I must
stop and start mythbackend in order for myth to see the free space. I
have searched the threads and see several discussions about this issue
but no fixes that I can understand. I am not a coder and only a Linux
beginner.

Since i have a 40gb drive i am repeating this process several times a week.

anyone have a fix that a newbie could perform?

2. I understand that transcoding helps to save space. I don't
understand all the transcoding options. I have tried several
variations but dont even know if i am changing the correct settings
for my box. Many times after a recording the Hard drive will churn for
days until i get sick of waiting and restart it.

I have read the How-To's but do not understand the different
transcoding options in the setup screens.

Can anyone tell me which options i should use for my bttv card and how
long a show should take to transcode and how large it should be after
transcoding?

Thanks

[mythtv-users] blurry boot and frontend but clear video playback

2005-02-20 Thread Bradley Hennon
Nvidia Gforce 4 generic.
Myth 0.17
Athlon xp 2200
Fedora Core 3
512mb of ram

I set everything and made sure it was cool using a monitor. Made
changes to my xorg.conf as per instructions here:
http://www.wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php#video
(which i am very greatful for.) then hooked up my standard 27" analog
TV using the composite connection. All screens are blurry. I am
running KDE and once logged into KDE it is blurry. So blurry that
nothing is readable.

I fire up MYTH and it is blurry. Looks HORRIBLE. Once i start watching
TV or watching old recordings. the recordings look great.

I lowered the resolution and now video will not play. "Error was
encountered while displaying video" I also can no longer select a
higher resolution. It is not available in the display settings.

I am not too worried about the error or the resolution. I am sure I
can fix that.

Anyone have a fix so that my screen is clear when booting and using
KDE or MYTHFrontend?

Thanks for all your help so far.

[mythtv-users] mythtvsetup questions

2005-02-14 Thread Bradley Hennon
Is there somewhere that details the setup options? I am up and running
but only by luck I think. I don't know what all the setup screens are
for. The documentation simply says "fill out as you see fit" Well I
don;t know what i am filling out or why. I just kept playing with the
different options till it started working.

Is there any documentation that describes the different config screens
and how they interact with each other?
