RE: [mythtv-users] Multiple Myth Backends on different cable lineups?

2005-12-12 Thread Dave Packham
Ok I got so far in testing to find out that any recordings on the remote
System 1 even if copied to the System 2 file system will still play via
the network from the System 1 via a stream. Any way to force it to
play from the local copy? Instead of streaming it?

Ill keep on working..

Subject: [mythtv-users] Multiple Myth Backends on different cable
lineups?

I need to try to setup up two backends in different cities and record
content from both of them to be played back on only one frontend/backend
system.

System 1Solo backend no frontend. cap card with tv lineup #1

System 2Front/Backend system with local 2 cap card with tv
lineup #2.

Can I setup the backend on system 1 to point its DB to system 2 for
recording and guide info. Then record the video file to a local HD
"/video/tv" when would then be transferred to the System 2 via scp or
rsync to a similar named directory structure "/video/tv" on system2 for
local playback?

I know that the show could not be watched live and would give an error
if I tried to watch it live, but after copy it would reside on the
local server for playback from the recorded area?

Can this work?

And how would I go about merging the two TV listing lineups? Can I make
one of them start at 200 or something?

I can transfer files at 1.1megs between the two systems so I don't think
that's enough to watch TV from a live stream.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

What if I'm using an ATI card? :)

I also mentioned the softness of the picture with the PVR-250. I
turned off the DNR which seems to have made a noticeable improvement
in picture quality but did nothing for the sharpness. There are some
MPEG-2 tuning parameters left but I am unsure what they do.

I'd agree that that the S-Video output would be better, but if it's
not available then you're stuck with composite.

I ended up putting my PVR 350 into a windows machine and using the
windows software that came with the card to do a channel scan. Then,
the channel number that it found the VCR on goes into the frequency
field on the second page of the mythtv channel setup.

So, each backend can use a local filesystem for storage. However, IMHO,

if your upstream bandwidth isn't great enough to support real-time

I have been thinking about this for a while. I would love to have the
series episode information available within Myth.

It'd be nice to have just for browsing Myth. I have Myth set to record
every episode of That '70s Show whenever it's on any channel. During any
given week, That '70s Show has 3 separate seasons running in on 4
different time slots (current season at 7 PM on Thursday, one season of
reruns on at 6:30 PM weekdays, another season of reruns on at 10:30 PM
weekdays and 9 PM on Sunday). It would be nice to be able to browse
those shows by season, and maybe even have the episode number listed.

If Myth ever gets a DVD-burning module, having this season and episode
info would be very helpful. When I burn DVDs of That '70s Show, I like
to put only 1 season on a disc, and have the episodes in order, with
episode numbers and titles listed in the DVD menu.

Maybe a simple way to list the episode info would be to have an option
to turn episode and season listings on or off. If this option is
enabled, the recordings could be prefaced by a simple season #/episode
#. For example:

S4/Ep1: It's a Wonderful Life
S4/Ep2: Eric's Depression

Just some thoughts...

Subject: [mythtv-users] Nebie here...

Hi guys,

First of all, please have mercy on this MythTV Newbie...

I'm a happy DishPlayer 7100 PVR user and I read a blurb about 'MythTV'
in the dishrip group and thought I'd check it out. All I can say is
"WOW!"...
It's amazing what you guys have collectively put together!!! So, I'd
love
to get started building a system, and as chance would have it, I've
already got most (if not all) of the hardware necessary to build a
MythTV system.
(Hauppauge PVR-350, Athlon XP 1800, 512 ram, Matrox Millennium G450 Dual
Head, 120GB HDD, DVD +/-R/RW, etc.)

But here's where the trouble comes in -- I've got very little
experience with Linux to date. I'm highly technical, and quite
proficient on PC Hardware and the Windows side of the world, but very
little exposure to Linux. I'm no stranger to command-line interfaces (I
work with mainframe systems that are all 'cli' based), so that aspect of
Linux doesn't bother me at all. It's just all the 'little'
Linux-specific commands and stuff that you're supposed to know before
attempting something like this that bothers me...

With that in mind, is it even possible for me to put this together
without having to have somebody 'hold my hand' through the whole
process??? Is it a really complex procedure (that it seems to be), or
is there a simple step-by-step guide of what to do that even a monkey
could follow? (Not that I'm a monkey, but when it comes to Unix/Linux,
my exposure has only been about 99% just using it, from a shell prompt,
and not
installing/compiling/configuring it.) Are there any ISO images that I
can
download to get started?

I guessing that many of my questions may be answered in the archives,
but I haven't been able to find out how to search them like I can do
with the Yahoo or Google news groups... Is there one?

Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for your replies...
You can email me directly if you want (my address is indeed real).

RE: [mythtv-users] Need IR receiver recommendation

2004-11-30 Thread Dave Packham
Would you buy/use this over a Irman or USB-IRT type device? And I own a
DishPlayer remote that im using now. With a homebuilt IR reciever. I
would like one that more compatable with other apps. I know its not a IR
sender but does it have all the functionality if the Irman/USB-IRT?

Axel's lirc rpms do support these.
