Anyone else have this problem? Is it any cause for concern? Not sure, but I do see a good number of ERRORs on my setup as well (FC3 with ivtv-0.2.0rc3a). Recordings are working very well except if large amounts of IO occur while recording at which point I get messages like this: ivtv: ENC IRQ OVERFLOW: #0 Stealing a Buffer, 256 currently allocated When this happens a recording will continue to record OK, but for some reason myth will think that the recording is extremely long, for example, 8 hours long instead of 1. This will make doing things like skipping forward and backward work strangely. 2. How often should I do an apt-get upgrade? I don't know if it makes sense in general to do so much updating if my system is stable and doing what I want it to. Any opinions? One update which I would like to make is avidemux2 since the atRPMs version (2.0.28) seems to have some problem that the dag version (2.0.34test2) doesn't, but I would have to uninstall avidemux2 to make the update unless I do a complete apt-get upgrade. [mythtv-users] FC3 and module auto-load how-to
From what I can tell the best way to get modules like ivtv and lirc_serial to load at boot time, is to edit /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit, go to line 151 and modify the line other="" to contain the modules you want to load at boot time. On my system, the line looks like this: other="ivtv lirc_serial" This loads ivtv and lirc_serial for me. My /etc/modprobe.conf has the following to get ivtv and lirc_serial initialized properly: # Begin IVTV portion alias char-major-81 videodev # For All Tuners (0,1) alias char-major-81-0 ivtv alias char-major-81-1 ivtv install ivtv /sbin/modprobe v4l1-compat && \ /sbin/modprobe msp3400-ivtv && \ /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install ivtv # End IVTV portion # Begin lirc portion install lirc_serial /bin/setserial /dev/ttyS0 uart none && /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install lirc_serial alias char-major-61 lirc_serial options lirc_serial io=0x3f8 irq=4 # End lirc portion Hope this helps. I'm working on it... I believe the problem is a bit of a chicken and egg problem. The application (mythbackend wants /dev/video[0-9], lircd wants /dev/lirc[0-9]). Previously when an application would access those devices, the kernel would see (for example) /dev/lirc0 is mapped to major 61 minor 0, look in /etc/modprobe.conf for char-major-61 and load the appropriate module. But with udev the kernel doesn't know that those applications are probing for those devices as those devices do not exist until the module is loaded. If you could get those devices to show up all the time, or manually load the modules before any applications start, that would solve the clean reboot problem. Heh, now that I've thought about it, you can fix this by creating the appropriate devices in /etc/udev/devices: # cd /etc/udev.d/devices/ # mknod lirc0 c 61 0 # mknod video0 c 81 0 You may have to create additional devices if you have more than one ivtv device or a PVR-350 depending on the order mythbackend probes things. -Dave ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
