[mythtv-users] Can't play PVR-350 recordings in QuickTime any more
Hello A few months ago I tried copying some MythTV recordings to my Mac and playing them in QuickTime (after changing the file extension from .nuv to .mpg) and they worked just fine, but now when I try, I get this error: "QuickTime cannot open the file: "1087_2005092019.mpg" it is not a file that QuickTime understands (-2048)". Of course, being a geek, I have changed about a million things in my setup in the months since this I tried this the last time, so I have no idea where to start looking. Is it ivtv? QuickTime 7? Tiger? Myth? Some mysterious codec? The phase of the moon? Eggert ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Death by apt-get
It apparently fixes the issue. However, the simpler solution is to reverse the libselinux update: apt-get install libselinux=1.19.3-1_1.rhfc2.at \ libselinux-devel=1.19.3-1_1.rhfc2.at The issue does exist on FC3, but on FC3, I get two error messages from glibc about an invalid pointer being freed and it does not cause a segmentation fault in init. BTW, I have a second FC2 box (my mythfrontend) that does not exhibit the behaviour above and still boots with the latest updates. I don't know what the difference is between those boxes. Thanks for the reply. Instead of waiting for help (like I should have done) I tried to fix this on my own by installing/removing packages at random and completely hosed the machine, so now I'm doing a clean install of FC3. I have 26 hours to get everything up and running before the next episode of Lost is aired. Wish me luck... :-) Eggert ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Death by apt-get
Hello I know that this is completely off-topic, but I figured that someone here might be able to help me bring my machine back to life. I was running FC2, set up according to Jarods' guide and everything has been working perfectly for weeks, so I decided to use apt-get to update my system. Since it is been a while since I updated, apt-said it wanted to update the following packages: ImageMagick alsa-driver alsa-lib alsa-lib-devel alsa-utils apt arts autoconf automake gdk-pixbuf gnupg gtk2 gtk2-devel kdeaddons kdeadmin kdeartwork kdebase kdegames kdegraphics kdelibs kdemultimedia kdenetwork kdepim kdeutils krb5-devel krb5-libs lftp libselinux libselinux-devel mozilla mozilla-mail mozilla-nspr mozilla-nss python24 telnet util-linux xorg-x11 xorg-x11-100dpi-fonts xorg-x11-75dpi-fonts xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL xorg-x11-Mesa-libGLU xorg-x11-Xnest xorg-x11-base-fonts xorg-x11-devel xorg-x11-font-utils xorg-x11-libs xorg-x11-libs-data xorg-x11-tools xorg-x11-truetype-fonts xorg-x11-twm xorg-x11-xauth xorg-x11-xdm xorg-x11-xfs zvbi The following NEW packages will be installed: kernel#2.6.10-2.1.ll.rhfc2.ccrma kernel-module-alsa-2.6.10-2.1.ll.rhfc2.ccrma libsamplerate libsndfile1 mDNSResponder I decided to be cautious and installed only the kernel first and then restarted the machine. When I ran "apt-get dist-upgrade" again it complained that alsa-lib conflicted with libasound2, so I ran "apt-get remove libasound2", "apt-get dist-upgrade" and tried to restart, and now my machine won't boot! It gets as far as "Enabling swap space" and then it dies with "INIT: PANIC: segmentation violation at 0x6633d4! sleeping for 30 seconds" I can boot in rescue mode from the install CD so I am not completely lost, but I really have no idea how to proceed from there. I tried upgrading to kernel#2.6.11-0.3.rdt.rhfc2.ccrma, but it has no effect. Fsck finds nothing wrong, and there is nothing in the logs. Would updating to FC3 replace enough system components to fix this or would it only make matters worse? [mythtv-users] Why use PVR 350 TV-out? (Was: X and PVR 350)
Hello I have been following the thread "X and PVR 350" and other similar threads where people have been having problems with running MythTV on the PVR 350 TV-out, and I can certainly relate to their frustration because I went through all the same problems when I was trying to set up my machine. I finally gave up and instead used the TV-out of my nVidia card and I couldn't be happier. Before, I could not play DivX files or transcoded recordings because my machine was too slow, but now I play them (at about 50% CPU). Plus, the UI is noticably snappier, I don't have to use that funky audio out-> audio in -> oudio out loop and the image quality is IMHO better. So my question is, why should people setting up their Myth boxes even try to use the PVR 350? Why not just buy a PVR 250 and a e-GeForce MX4000 for the same price? Note that this is not meant as a flame, I'm just curious. Eggert ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] Time offset; losing first few seconds of recordings
Wow, the TV stations where you live are a bit more punctual than the ones here. I had to hack mythweb to add 20 minutes to the end of every recording because the broadcasts are *always* late! Why can't you just change the pre-record time in Options? If you set both the start and end time to be three seconds early, there shouldn't be any scheduling conflicts, and it is a lot simpler than to tweak the system clock. Regards, Eggert On 26.1.2005, at 23:32, Ian Trider wrote: Hello, I am losing approximately 3 seconds off of the start of my recordings in MythTV. I am using a PVR-350, so I'm guessing the source of this delay (the time is sync'd by NTP) is due to the time it takes for the PVR-350 to tune the tuner. So, what I would like to do is offset the time (on the system, if necessary) by roughly three seconds. Setting the pre-record time in Options isn't particularly helpful because if two programs are back-to-back, it ignores it. I thought it would be a straightforward matter to add a delay while syncing by NTP, but it seems I was wrong. Any ideas on how I can do this? -- Ian Trider [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

Well, personally I prefer a web interface over picking music with a remote control. I realize that I can ssh into the mythbox and run mplayer, but I just find it a bit strange that with all the impressive looking streaming web apps that seem to be out there, I can't find a single one that has an option of sending the files to mplayer instead of streaming them. This would make a killer frontend! How does MythTV work on Mac OS X these days? Well, there seems to be a problem with running the 0.16 frontend on a wireless network (see my post from 3 days ago), but on Ethernet it works just fine. You'll need the DVI -> S-Video adaptor and the Keyspan Remote (or a bluetooth keyboard) and you're set. That being said, I've found that disabling other network programs (ssh, fire, web browser, etc.) helps considerably. Thanks. I don't quite understand *why* this should work, but I tried quitting all the obvious candidates (Mail, Fire etc) and MythFrontend ran for over 10 minutes (an impressive improvement). What was even more impressive was that I ran out of power after a few minutes so the Mac went to sleep and when I woke it up again it continued playing live TV as if nothing had happened! Also, on my iBook (1.2ghz + 1g RAM), MythTV runs 60%+ and spikes much higher. Firefox sucks up a lot of CPU, so I have an especially hard time watching TV and browsing concurrently. In my experience, the OSX sheduler isn't even in the same league as the one my Linux box. Well, IMHO, the Mac scheduler is pretty good, but that is probably because the only comparison that I have is Windows :-) MythTV on Linux is bleeding edge. MythTV on OSX is bleeding edge of a bleeding edge. I expect it to improve over time. ;) And speking of bleeding edge: does anyone know whether the latest CVS version of the Mac client is better in this regard? [mythtv-users] Can't use MacOS X frontend on wireless network
Hello I am having problems streaming video from my backend server to a MacOS X frontend on a wireless network. I have a FC2 machine running a combination frontend/backend with the 0.16 distribution from atrpms on a machine that is connected to my TV. I can also hook my Mac up to Ethernet and use it as a frontend, but if I try using the Mac on my wireless network, the video stops after a few minutes and the frontend goes back to the MythTV menus. I would suspect that the wireless network isn't handling the load, but when I try downloading episodes through MythWeb, I can download a 30 minute nuv file in 7 minutes (2.4 Mb/s), so I should have enough bandwidth, right? It seems that a lot of people on this list are using wireless frontends without problems. Is is perhaps a bug in the Mac client?
