RE: [mythtv-users] WinFast 2000 XP Capture Card & FC3

2005-04-06 Thread Jeremy DeStefano
Thank you for the clarification. I'll try these out and see if I can't get
this card to work. Otherwise, I think I hear a 250 calling my name.

I'll post back with my results...

My doc does NOT say to add that. For a cx88 card, it should be:

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 cx8800

You shouldn't be loading the bttv driver, that's for bttv cards.

Yes.

No. But you might want to:

# apt-get install cx88-kmdl-`uname -r`
# apt-get install cx88

No it doesn't. With ivtv, 'modprobe ivtv' on FC3 triggers udev
creating /dev/video0.

# modprobe cx8800

PVR-250 is pretty much the gold standard of (a

[mythtv-users] WinFast 2000 XP Capture Card & FC3

2005-04-05 Thread Jeremy DeStefano
I'm testing a machine with FC3 with the latest kernel with MythTV 0.17. I
put in the Hauppage WinTV Radio Card. The card seems to be recognized by FC
as a WinFast 2000 XP Card. I know this needs the CX8800 drivers. According
to the website for the CX drivers, they are included in the 2.6 Kernel.

I've added the
Alias Char-Major-81-0 bttv
Alias Char-Major-81 cx8800

in the modprobe.conf as Jarod's HOWTO says, however, the card is not being
assigned a /dev/videox. Is there something I'm missing? Do I need to
recompile the Kernel with the CX drivers? I know with IVTV, its the ivtv-fb
command that actually sets up the /video0. Is there a comparable command
for the CX?

Or is this card just not worth the time and effort? It was a free card for
me to test with, so if it would be easier to go get a PVR-250 or something,
its not a problem.

Yeah, I was starting it up through the Terminal. Just got it working
yesterday and I haven't put in the script to start it automatically yet.

Thanks for the help.

[mythtv-users] /video Permissions

2005-04-05 Thread Jeremy DeStefano
When going through Jarod's install, I changed the default location that
recordings and the LiveTV buffer to. However, I was getting an error that
Access was being denied. When I gave everyone full access to the
/video/recordings and /video/buffer folders, the Mythbackend started with no
issues.

What permissions should I set on those folders?

[mythtv-users] Video input not working

2005-04-04 Thread Jeremy DeStefano
Title: Video input not working

I'm following Jarod's HOWTO to setup MythTV.  I've got up to the point of configuring IVTV.  The various commands to check it are working fine.  My PVR-350 is connected to Video0.  However, I tried opening Xawtv to see if I was getting a signal from the cable.  I get the following error message.

This is xawtv-3.93, running on Linux/i686 (2.6.10-1.770_14.rhfc3.at)

Subject: [mythtv-users] Help with PVR-350

Just recently installed a PVR-350. Followed the HOWTO at Wilsonet.com.
When I run /sbin/lspci -v, both my PVR-350 and my other WinTV Card show up,
however, in the details, they have a [disabled]. The video card has this as
well.

I have IVTV installed, but when I run the /sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb it fails
out with several fatal errors. I'd post them, but the machine is currently
at work, and I'm at home now.

I've used Xawtv -hwscan to show me how the cards are assigned (video0,
video1, etc), but neither of them is in the list. I'm completely stumped.
Searching the web hasn't turned up much. Anyone have any ideas as to what
might be the problem? I have Myth 0.17 installed and its running on Fedora
Core 3, with the latest kernel.

Any help is appreciately greatly.

Thanks,

[mythtv-users] Trouble installing MythTV

2005-03-31 Thread Jeremy DeStefano

Please try to forgive my ignorance.  I'm relatively new to Linux (I
took several courses a few years ago) and I'm trying to get MythTV installed.
I'm running Fedora Core 3, latest kernel, according to Fedora's
update program.

I've been following the HOWTO from Wilsonet.com.  I've got a PVR-350 and a WinTV model 401 in the machine.  Its running an old NVIDIA TNT Vanta for a video card.  Fedora seems to be recognizing both
units, but /dev/videox isn't
being setup for each one.  I've
used apt-get to install ivtv and bttv,
but when I try to run /sbin/modprobe ivtv-fb, it gets a FATAL error and says the modules aren't
loaded.

Can anyone offer any advice?  If you need more info about anything,
let me know.
