You shouldn't have any problems with dependencies if you follow
Jarod's guide. Last time I set up a system on FC using his guide
everything I needed was within the ATRPMS repository.

Atrpms makes the installation easy indeed. However I have been trying to
figure out why is it that atrpms repository has recompiled packages? I
don't want to mess too much with the std. installation. Seems a bit too
risky for my purposes anyway.
What is the difference between normal Fedora packages and the ones from
Atrpms and with the xxx.at naming?

I usually pull the Myth stuff and then remove the atrpms.repo because of
this.

Re: [mythtv-users] Disabling IRQ

After about half an hour of watching a video, I get this message.
(Xine dies immediately and mplayer continues on for a few minutes
more, then eventually dies, as well). It only happens when watching a
DVD directly or ripped using either perfect or compressed.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] log]# cat /proc/interrupts

I had this happen on my server.
Problem I had was related to RAID-5 controllers which were disabled
after heavy activity.

I'm running a MSI 694D board with two PIII-800 processors.

The fix was to force the IRQ selection off from Fedora with a Grub boot
command.

Don't know if it helps but this what is working for me.
   pci=noacpi
This is placed to the grub.conf after the kernel string

Either is fast enough to keep up with mythtv so its up to you. Personally I
would go for the faster drive.

IMHO - MAxtor drives are junk. Have had to replace 2 already. Of course,
they were both covered under warrenty so its not a huge deal. I noticed both
times they upgraded me to a different drive so it might be model specific.
Mine were both 240gb drives from about a year ago.

I have a 4800rpm laptop drive on mine...it is a frontend though.
Server has 5400rpm disks because of price, power reqs. and cooling needs
are smaller.

If it's for a frontend get a 4400rpm 60gb laptop HDD with a 2.5-3.5
IDE adapter. It'll be nice and quiet. Don't use anything less than a
recent 60gb HDD or the noises made by the heads when in use will drive
you nuts.

It is possible to reduce seek noise with hdparm. I have done it with my
apache server which is running less than a meter from my right ear.
Quiet as a mouse now.
I have not noticed performance effect in my use but there might be some
in heavy duty usage.
