I was having the EXACT same issues with my standard PVR-250. If I
disabled the XvMC it would jump and stutter, but enabling it messed up
the menus. I was running the nvidia version 8178 and downgrading to
7676 solved it all.

[mythtv-users] Backend without xorg?

2005-12-10 Thread Matthew Daubenspeck
Is there a way to easily install and configure a backend that doesn't
have X? I am working on moving my backend Myth server (which is
currently also my main desktop) to another headless box. However, it
doesn't have xorg installed. Since it is a server, that adds a lot of
extras that I don't see as being necessary.

Is there a text/console/ncurses way of setting up a backend?

My problem turned out to be an old debug=1 setting in /etc/modules.conf
and /etc/modules.d/aliases. Removing the line from both then allowed all
of the modules to load properly. However, after that I could no longer
change channels.

I decided to upgrade to the most recent ivtv "testing" version which as
of the time is ivtv-0.3.6z. Unpacked, compiled, modprobed and I am back
in business. The testing drivers are working just fine for me.

[mythtv-users] [OT] ivtv troubles

2005-07-14 Thread Matthew Daubenspeck
I know this is a bit OT, but I have tried all of the other lists and
haven't had any luck solving the issue. I know mythtv-user's are always
glad to help :)

In short, I can't modprobe ivtv.

I have been having this problem with kernels starting with 2.6.11-x

including the most recent 2.6.12 version. They are all gentoo kernels,

and I have also tried them with kernels directly from kernel.org with

the same result. Here is the error:

# modprobe ivtv

WARNING: Error inserting i2c_core
(/lib/modules/2.6.12-gentoo-r4/kernel/drivers/i2c/i2c-core.ko): Un

FATAL: Error inserting ivtv (/lib/modules/2.6.12-gentoo-r4/extra/ivtv.ko):

 or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

Here is dmesg:

i2c_core: Unknown parameter `i2c_debug'

i2c_algo_bit: Unknown symbol i2c_del_adapter

i2c_algo_bit: Unknown symbol i2c_add_adapter

ivtv: Unknown symbol i2c_bit_add_bus

ivtv: Unknown symbol i2c_bit_del_bus

I don't think it's ivtv itself, as I have tried the stable (0.2.0_rc3)

as well as 0.3.6z and get the same error. I have checked and rechecked

my kernel configs for i2c and I believe everything is correct. I am

using the same config with 2.6.10 and it works fine.

Any suggestions? Thanks for your time.

What exactly does "don't work" mean? I have mythvideo working fine on

Sorry for the confusion. The user actually had all the rights (create,
alter, index, etc etc) but didn't have the LOCK TABLES privilege. I
believe this is new to .18 since it never happened before...

Sorry to waste the bandwidth.

[mythtv-users] Upgrade to 0.18.1 failed

2005-05-30 Thread Matthew Daubenspeck
I have been running 0.17 on Gentoo for a while now and have been very
happy. I decided to try the upgrade to 0.18.1 (gentoo's -r1
specifically) and the database upgrade section seems to fail. From what
I can tell, it seems to ignore the settings I have in
/etc/mythtv/mysql.txt. I currently have the mysql server running on a
different box then that of the mythbackend. Here is the actual message:

$ mythsetup

It is trying 192.168.0.2, which is the mythbackend server where mysql
runs on 192.168.0.4. This is in /etc/mythtv/mysql.txt. For now I am
going to downgrade so I don't go into Myth-withdrawl :)

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've had similar problems with the backend crashing all the time, and it
all seems to be centered around the recorded_programs.php script.

I have since renamed it and have NOT used it and the backend has been
working flawlessly for over a week. I just haven't had the time to
find out exactly what it is that is making it crash.

I believe there were a few threads that pointed to it being whatever
section talks to the backend and creates the snapshot images of a
recording.

At any rate, NOT using that script seems to have solved my issues for
now.

[mythtv-users] Upgrade to .17, mythbackend sporadically dies

2005-02-18 Thread Matthew Daubenspeck
I have performed the upgrade to .17 and didn't seem to have any upgrade
issues. However, I have noticed that mythbackend seems to randomly die
just after a recording takes place, sometime when it's marking
commercials. I checked the backend log and don't seem to see anything
out of the ordinary. Here is a section just after it locks up:

Starting up as the master server.
vbi: Inappropriate ioctl for device
2005-02-18 19:20:27.585 Waited 2 seconds for data to become available,
waiting again...

That vbi error does happen quite often, but it is always far after the
crash (this crash happened at 19:01). I have a crude bash script to
check if mythbackend is running, and if not restart it. That vbi error
is also there even when it doesn't crash.

I am using the Gentoo .17 ebuild with a PVR-250. I had very rare
crashes/issues with .16. Any ideas where I can start to make debugging a
bit easier?

Re: [mythtv-users] Xbox Xebian 1.1.1 and Mythtv 0.17? Anyone got it working yet?

2005-02-14 Thread Matthew Daubenspeck
It looks like Dennis's installer doesn't work with 1.1.1. I tried that
today, and it didn't work.

However, upgrading the packages didn't seem to work either. I got a ton
of errors that said packages weren't installed or couldn't be found.

However, doing a complete reinstall according to TFM
(http://bit.blkbk.com/) installed everything perfectly again, except for
the add-on modules (mythgame, mythmusic, etc). Make sure you use an
Xebian 1.0.3 install CD.

It's not perfect, but I now have 2 xboxes working with .17.
