Thanks for that, Alexander; I had already seen that page but it's good to
know that I was on the right track. My big question here is how do I get
the bttv driver options right for each card, and how do I tell the kernel
that one set of options are for one particular card and another set are for
the other? I can see the cards being detected correctly in the dmesg
listing but still can't see any TV channels. tvtime-scanner just locks up
(refusing to even submit to kill -9) and tvtime still gives the "can't find
tuner info: invalid argument" error.

Am I asking on the right list? If not, I'm sorry; please point me to a
list that is more likely to help.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Don't know about the DVB card as I don't have one...
But is your bttv module loaded with the correct card and tuner numbers?
For example my bttv module stuff in /etc/modules.conf is as follows (yours
will differ):

alias char-major-81-0 bttv
options bttv card=6 radio=0 tuner=6
No, I haven't done this (my modprobe.conf is at
http://tangram.dnsalias.net:8008/~paulway/modprobe.txt - sorry about not
thinking of including this earlier). How do I know which numbers to
use? I couldn't see anything obvious in the output of dmesg that said
where to get these numbers from.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

[mythtv-users] No tuners on two bt-878 cards?

2005-01-28 Thread Paul Wayper
Hi all,
I've mostly installed MythTV on my new box (the hardware list is at
http://www.mabula.net/mythtv.html; it's running Fedora Core 3) and the
essential problem seems to be that I can't actually tune in to any
station. All the TV cards have been detected OK (as far as I can see) -
the relevant logs can be found at:

http://tangram.dnsalias.net:8008/~paulway/dmesg.txt
http://tangram.dnsalias.net:8008/~paulway/lsmod.txt
http://tangram.dnsalias.net:8008/~paulway/lspci.txt
(I don't like to bombard people with huge logs - hope this is kosher.)
When I run tvtime it can see the composite and S-Video inputs on either
card (I think) but gives me errors in the form:

videoinput: Can't get tuner info: Invalid argument.
mythtvsetup also sees neither TV card, especially the DVB card - I'm not
sure where to find the logs to give any further detail.

I've also tried running ozradio and fm to try to get the FM tuner working;
both of these seem to either segfault or hang in a kill -9 resistant way.

I've tried countless google searches and read through a lot of the
MythTV-users list archives, as well as followed the instructions on the
MythTV and on the excellent WilsoNet site, but to no avail. I now throw
myself at your mercy - I'm just not that savvy with the Linux internals to
know where to look to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance,
Paul
