[mythtv-users] Re: Recording Profiles dont seem to work with a PVR350 mpeg2 encoder chip!?
Probably not, I'll have to check. But why should that matter? Im not asking MythTV to transcode my recordings once theyve been recorded. After all, that would just result in more loss of quality. I'm trying to get to the point were my recording profiles are as such that I can more or less directly burn my recordings to DVD without any need of re-encoding or transcoding. Ok, I just checked it, and the first page says Automatically transcode after recording. But whats the point in enabling that? I do NOT want to have to re-encode my recordings. And since they are being recorded at 480x480 resolution anyway, resizing them through transcoding is utterly pointless. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Re: Re: Recording Profiles dont seem to work with a PVR350 mpeg2 encoder chip!?
I'm sorry to say guys, you've missed the plot completely. I am NOT saying that transcode is enabled. It is off, not selected, not checked or anything. You simply asked if the option for it was there, the option is there but it is NOT activated. Furthermore, I am not questioning the use of the auto-transcode feature, but you made it sound like the reason why my recordings get RECORDED (not transcoded) to a resolution of 480x480 was because I did not enable auto transcode. To which I replied that I dont see the point of activating auto transcode, since I dont see why that is preventing my recording profile from doing what its supposed to. Im am absolutely positive there is NO transcoding active. In fact, if I start to watch live tv using the ringbuffer, then open a console and start mplayer on the ringbuffer file, the size is still 480x480!! Even if I change the LIVETV profile to 352x288 OR 720x576, IT IS STILL AT 480x480 when I play it via mplayer. Its not being converted or transcoded to that resolution, it is being recorded at that resolution (480x480). Furthermore all my recording profiles seem to ignore whatever bitrate I specify, regardless of the chosen stream type, be it MPEG2-TS, MPEG2-PS, DVD, DVD-Special1 or DVD-Special2. Its as if the recording profiles setup is being completely ignored simply because I have an MPEG2 encoder. Its not like the hardware is not capable of achieving different resolutions or bitrates Ive tried it several times using other tools. If I use ivtvctl then I can set it to any bitrate I desire, any resolution I choose and even to any stream type I want. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Re: Recording Profiles dont seem to work with a PVR350 mpeg2 encoder chip!?
OMG!?!?! Im a such an idiot I accidentally had a set of additional custom recording profiles. And you can guess, the custom recording profiles were all at their default settings of 480x480 and a max bitrate of 6000kbps. D'OH! Now that I changed those settings, everything thankfully works as it should again. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Recording Profiles dont seem to work with a PVR350 mpeg2 encoder chip!?
Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but it seems as though MythTV just completely ignores whatever I setup as a recording profile. I have a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 350 by the way. I have setup all profiles (Live TV, default, Lo quality, Hiquality) with a resolution of 720x576 (PAL). But when I play a recording back with mplayer, it reports that the recording actually has a resolution of 480x480. I cant get it do any other resolution, regardless of what I choose in the profile setup. Also, video bitrate does not seem to have any effect whatsoever. Every recording seems to be recorded with 6000kbs no matter what I choose, regardless of selecting default, live, lo or high quality. The card is capable of doing this, since I have been able to manually record stuff from video tape at 720x576 resolution and with a bitrate other than 6000kbps, by setting the options directly via the ivtvctl commandline utility. Why does MythTV ignore my settings? Is this intended behaviour, or something wrong with my config? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Re: email list vs forum
Someone here mentioned usenet newsgroups. I have been thinking about this as well. It seems to me that the best place for mythtv discussion would be via usenet. I cant really think of any disadvantages of communicating via newsgroup. Perhaps someone could name some advantages of mailing list vs: newsgroup. Is there even a mythtv newsgroup at the moment? By the way, one of you mentioned that gmail has a comfortable way of handling mailing lists. Can anyone recommend a linux mail reader which handles mailing lists well? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

What about gmane? I dont know the exact details, but gentoo has some discussion groups on gmane which are accessible via newsreader on gmane's own news server. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Re: Re: email list vs forum
Ok, I've taken another look at gmane. Apparently its a mailinglist-to-usenet gateway of sorts. From what I can tell its free. You can register a mailing list there, and then have it accessible via newsreader. People can still read and post the old way or through a newsreader. And since gmane uses its own newsservers, there shouldnt be any problems for people who's isp doesnt even offer a newsgroup server. http://gmane.org Sounds like the ideal solution. At least thats the impression I got. If anyone knows why this would be a bad idea, please tell. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Re: Very High 'System' CPU Usage - nxtvepg was root cause
I am experiencing the same problem. If I run nxtvepg along with mythbackend, then as soon as mythbackend starts to record, it takes up ALL of the cpu power. If I disable nxtvepg while running mythbackend, I can immediately see the cpu consumtion drop to normal levels. e.g. 3-5% when recording in low quality mode. With nxtvepg running it goes to maximum all the time, regardless of high quality or low quality settings. Any idea what exactly is causing this and how to fix it? ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] When selecting to record a recurring show, how about a title edit function?
How do I do that? If I search via title, then it still shows the title as Simpsons Episode XX If I then select any of the found episodes and set it to record on this channel at anytime, then it only selects the current episode and its rerun (if any). But not the other shows. I still have to manually select them to be recorded. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. [mythtv-users] When selecting to record a recurring show, how about a title edit function?
Im a german MythTV user and use XMLtv to get my epg data. Now here's a little problem I've discovered. The epg data often contains as the name of a show the name plus the episode number. For example instead of just saying Simpsons for the title, it would say Simpsons episode 245. So the problem is, if I want to tell mythtv to record every transmission of the Simpsons by selecting Record on this channel at any time it of course wont work, since its only searching for titles with that exact name and episode number. I would suggest as a solution to implement a edit function into the title. e.g. When you select to record a show, you can edit the title and shorten it so that its only the name of the show, and thereby define that mythtv should record anything with Simpsons in the title, even if that means Simpsons episode 1 or Simpsons episode 235. Another way to do this function would be to implement into one of the search for programmes menus. Either way, it would be really nice, since its annoying to have to manually select every show which I want to record. -- When eating an elephant take one bite at a time. -- Gen. C.
