According to the law there are three types of lost property: Mislaid - I placed something somewhere and I forgot that I put it there. Whoever finds it at this point becomes the legal caretaker of the product until I come and claim it. They have no ownership rights/title to it and are responsible for the upkeep of it. Lost - I had an item but now I cannot find it and don't know where it is. The finder of it has legal title of it against the world to everyone except the true owner. Abandoned - I had an item but now I decided I don't want it so I just discarded it. The finder of the item has legal title of it against the world and the true owner. In this case the cable company's ownership is definitely mislaid. Because of this you have no ownership rights or title to it and in fact you are responsible for making sure that it is kept in good shape and not used an any way contrary to how the owner would want. According to the law you have the responsibility of telling the cable company about the service being given to you. Once you have done this you are now absolved from any legal wrongdoings. Re: [mythtv-users] 2.6.10-1.741_FC3 lock up?
Could be a video issue. I've found on FC3 that if the video stuff isn't set up properly it can hang at boot time when it's tries to move into the pretty graphical startup mode. Easiest way to "fix" this is to remove the rhgb entry in your grub.conf file. This will make it text based while bringing things up. X will try to start for the login screen, but it won't lock the system up during the boot. An example in grub would be like: title Fedora Core (2.6.9-1.678_FC3) root (hd0,1) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.678_FC3 ro root=LABEL=/ quiet initrd /initrd-2.6.9-1.678_FC3.img Hope that helps. Sounds like you might be having IRQ conflicts or something of the like. I would suggest switching the slots that the ethernet card is plugged into. If this is an onboard system then you might need to change the slot that it is in. Just my 2 cents Scott -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] on behalf of Mark Dillavou Sent: Wed 12/1/2004 4:08 PM To: Discussion about mythtv Cc: Subject:[mythtv-users] mythtv and hauppage pvr 250 killing my network ? After a couple weeks of messing with this, I think I've narrowed it down to either my hauppauge pvr250 card or mythtv (or both). A couple weeks ago, I installed a hauppague pvr250 and setup mythtv on my gentoo box, and ever since then my internet will occasionally stop working. At first I thought it was my isp, so I called them up and complained everyday for a week until they sent a technician out who said nothing is wrong. I then realized that this started happening about the same time i installed the pvr card. What basically happens is my computer will randomly lose its connection to the cable modem. The cable modem is online and still working fine, but my computer and can no longer ping it. After resetting the modem, my computer can see the modem and the internet works fine for a couple hours until this happens again. To make sure this wasn't a problem with my isp or modem, I took out the pvr card for a week, and my computer never lost its connection once, whereas when I have the card installed, it happens every couple hours. Here's are my specs: Gentoo Linux Athlon 1.2 1 gig ram hauppauge pvr 250 nvidia tnt 2 linksys network card (Lite-On Communications Inc LNE100TX [Linksys EtherFast 10/100] (rev 25)) netgear network card (Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
