[mythtv-users] Error "Configure 3rd-party package repositories"

2005-11-09 Thread Serge.Zwikker
First of all I would like to thank everyone that has help me so far. I am a
total newbie to Linux and want to learn!

I am following the http://www.wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php how to.

So when it tells me to do this:

This is a simple matter of adding a configuration file for each repository in
/etc/yum.repos.d/. Pre-configured files can be simply downloaded to your system
like so:

# cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
# wget http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/atrpms.repo
# wget http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/freshrpms.repo

This is what happens when I do it:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] mythtv]$ su
Password:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] mythtv]# cd /etc/yum.repos.d/
bash: cd: /etc/yum.repos.d/: No such file or directory
[EMAIL PROTECTED] mythtv]#

Any suggestions?

thanks!

Would I still need a pvr-350 (or any pvr-card) if I am going to use

The SA8300 is not listed as a supported firewire device, but its worth a
shot. The SA3250 is supported.

There are good instructions for getting the firewire capture working
here:

http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php

Look for this section "FireWire capture from a supported cable box"

I use Brighthouse/TWC in Central Florida and they disable the firewire
port on the SA 8300. This box also has very ugly output on the s-video
port for 16:9 HD channels. It puts gray boxes on the top/bottom for the
widescreen.

RE: [mythtv-users] Stupid Newbie Question about Linux

2005-11-08 Thread Serge.Zwikker
I think they don't have it in there new version anymore. I also did the
lower case "l" It acts like it reads the file just doesn't give me the
option to choose. And I have installed that first part probably now
about 20 times :(

I didn't use a capital "L" when I did it a couple of weeks ago. Did

linux jfs

and did manually partition disk, which gave me the option of jfs.
Aditionally I created a logical volume (LVM, have 2 disks in the system,
with the OS, swap, etc on disk one with the remainder of disk one and
all of disk two in the logical volume) which I mount over /usr/local
then I just created a directory, /usr/local/video for MythTv. Below are
the results of 1) mount command and 2) df command from my box. Hope this
helps some, David

1)

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# mount
/dev/hda2 on / type ext3 (rw)
/dev/proc on /proc type proc (rw)
/dev/sys on /sys type sysfs (rw)
/dev/devpts on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620) /dev/hda1 on
/boot type ext3 (rw) /dev/shm on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol00 on /usr/local type jfs (rw) none on
/proc/sys/fs/binfmt_misc type binfmt_misc (rw)
automount(pid1990) on /misc type autofs
(rw,fd=4,pgrp=1990,minproto=2,maxproto=4)
automount(pid2025) on /net type autofs
(rw,fd=4,pgrp=2025,minproto=2,maxproto=4)

2)

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]# df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda2 24797412 4085720 19431716 18% /
/dev/hda1 988088 25180911904 3% /boot

2005-11-08 Thread Serge.Zwikker
Hmmm I download FC4 today from one of the main mirrors and no luck.
It will let me put in "linux jfs" but no luck on getting it to work when
I do /video partition.

If you are using FC4, it is still there, I just built my system last
night and it was there.

And credit the Jarod website, it took my about 2hours to get everything
up and running from a brand new built computer.

Just make sure you type "linux jfs" lowercase "L" in linux

You're not doing anything wrong, just select Ext3 and keep going.

I guess Fedora removed support for JFS or something. The HOWTO should
be updated. You're not the only one to be hung up on this.

[mythtv-users] Stupid Newbie Question about Linux

2005-11-08 Thread Serge.Zwikker
Ok I am following the http://wilsonet.com/mytht which I must say is
great. I just can't get past the easy install of Linux.

When I am installing Linux I type in the boot prompt "Linux jfs"

But when I do the Disk Setup and try to do JFS for my /video partition I
get only these options to choose from

Ext2
Ext3
Physical volume (LVM)
Software RAID
Swap
Vfat

What am I doing wrong here. I have Google it for hours just can't
figure out what I am doing wrong.

Thanks for all your help
