Re: [mythtv-users] Cost of MythTV Machines
I assume the systems to which you are referring are HD capable and "just work". My motive for building my own box was that I wanted to tinker with VIA min-itx mobos and it was just time for another DIY project. I forget what the price breakdown was, but I'm in it for over $600 now. VIA EPIA M1 (provides networking, video out, sound) Haupauge PVR-250 120 GB Hard Drive DVD+RW (which I never use) Cheap noname micro-atx desktop case Quiet replacement fan for the power supply Wireless keyboard and mouse KnoppMyth I had fun building it, but I'm not sure if I will rebuild when I go for high def. I'm not too happy with MythTV and might give Tivo a try. Tom ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I can't play any video files -- no recordings or Well, I finally threw in the towel and reinstalled with KnoppMyth. The install was super easy. The good news is that now my PVR-250's MPEG acceleration using XvMC VLD is working, which it never did on my old FC3 system. The bad news is that it's so jerky it's unwatchable. So now I have a Debian system that is a mix of stable, testing, and unstable. I know better than to try an "apt-get update" on that mix. :) Tom ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users

I can't play any video files -- no recordings or Well, I thought I had it figured out. I see that the new xorg-x11 that got installed has new support for ivtv and xvmc. I read somewhere that it requires the latest kernel, which also has new support for ivtv, but which I hadn't updated. So I was hoping that a new kernel would do the trick, but all I succeeded in doing was breaking my remote control, even with a new matching lirc-kmdl (kmdl=kernel module). What I don't understand is whether I still need the ivtv-kmdl now that the new kernel has this built in. I'm thinking no, but then why would it exist? Anybody? Good advice -- which I had followed until this. I started out wanting to install Xine, so that I could play DVDs including menu. Then I remembered that I could never transcode anything, or rip DVDs from Myth either. And XvMC mpeg2 hw decoding never worked for my PVR-250 either. Then I saw all these updates to MythTV and in a moment of greed/weakness thought that these would all be magically fixed. Oh well, live and learn. The irony is that my best hope for getting my Tomvo back up and running is to do an apt-get upgrade every day until it just works. At least, that's all I can think of. [mythtv-users] apt-get upgrade = borked mythtv
Hello. I did an apt-get update; apt-get upgrade today and now my system is borked. I can't play any video files -- no recordings or other. I get one second of audio and a blank screen. I see no error messages in /var/log/messages or /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log. My system locks up with X taking up 99% cpu. I have to kill X to get back to mythtv. I tried running mplayer and xine from the command line and I get the same symptom. Mythbackend seems to be recording away as usual, though. I just can't watch any recordings. Too bad, I really want to watch the latest nip-tuck. Oh, and the latest mythtv from ATRPMS doesn't seem to be compiled with XvMC. I don't see the option "Use XvMC VLD (PVR-x50 only)" anymore. [mythtv-users] Workaround for "watch tv" freeze
Hello. Like some other people, I'm experiencing the freeze problem. Briefly, it is as follows: Press "watch tv", I get video and audio for about 2 seconds, then freeze for about 10 seconds, then get returned to the main menu. Everything else works fine, including recording tv. I discovered that if I record tv for a bit, then the "watch tv" function works.
