[mythtv-users] RC on frontend only

2005-10-06 Thread Torbjørn Heltne
I have nearly aquired all HW for a separate frontend, but I'm a bit
uncertain about the remote control. In the combined back/frontend I have
already I use the RC that came with the pvr-350 and it works just fine.

Any recommendations on suitable remote controls for a frontend PC?

Do you have stuff like lmsensors installed?

I did, for a few hours, until I found out that it was choking the remote.

For PAL you should definitely use 576 lines instead of 480 lines. 480 lines
will give you a jumping playback.

When watching Live TV and playing recorded shows I experience something
that looks like a really low frame rate (~10fps).

Is it possible that what I actually see is this jumping playback artifact?
As of yet, I have not tried DVD playback.

Some of my HW details:
PVR-350 (X and TV-out)
P4 (Celeron) @ 2.4G
1G RAM

You'll need to use the unstable (3.0.x) version of the ivtv driver

Are you referring to verson 0.3.x vs 0.2.x?
I have looked into it, and I found a few postings where version(s)
0.3.6x are mentioned,

url:http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/139887?search_string=update%20ivtv%20driver;#139887
but the most recent I have found on sourceforge is is 0.3.3k

Which one do I want?

[mythtv-users] Newbie getting to know mythtv (long)

2005-07-25 Thread Torbjørn Heltne

Hello everybody!

Intro/Background:

It is pretty hard to decide which MB, case etc to buy. In the meantime I
want to familiarize myself with MythTV, so I have installed the other HW
(pvr-350,DVD-burner/hard disk) in a somewhat retired workhorse (P3/500
w/384MB).

From what I understand that should be plenty horsepower to run MythTV
because of the pvr-350. Right?

I have used Linux for years for a number of different, mostly server
related, purposes both around the house and at the office. I have not
played with that many different distributions, mostly RH and Fedora and
also a little bit Debian.

I am going to use the Myth-PC in a set-top setup where it will be
connected between the existing cable TV in the building and an ordinary TV.

I have read Jarod's guide for installation on FC3 while trying to
install - but I used FC4 as base.
(Side note: After reading Jarod's step-by-step guide the first time I
tried to follow it. It went well for a *short* while until I did the
first apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade. After finishing,
everything was broken. The apt-tools had disappeared and even rpm
barfed when used. I decided that continuing with a questionable base
linux install would probably not be a good idea. When using FC4 that
problem disappeared.)

***

Right now all is installed and I have tried to configure according to
Jarod's descriptions. I have also borrowed xorg.conf files from others
on the 'net, therefore I have managed to get KDE and also mythfrontend
on the TV-screen. First I want to get the DVD player up and running. So
far I have had no luck. After a number of lines about the DVD itself I get:

Based on this printout I have tried to find some useful information on
the 'net, but I'm a bit too unfamiliar with audio/video tools on computers.

All and any helt will be appreciated.
