Re: [mythtv-users] Which card to use for connecting directly to satellite dish?
I just want to receive TV and Radio programs from satellite. I have little (read none) knowledge about DVB-S under linux (or any other OS). Regards from Vijay G. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Which card to use for connecting directly to satellite dish?
Hi, I am running PVR-350 successfully for last 2 years. Now I want to add satellite dish also to my setup. I got a dish for free and got some info about the satellites accessible from Ireland. Which card is suitable (and cheap, but this is not top most priority)? I am looking at http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/prods_digital-s.html and the first three (last one is USB) are looking good. Which one should I go for? Cheers! Vijay G. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Anybody using transcode 1.0.1?
Hi, I have a very stable set-up of MythTV using an old DXR + PVR350 + Fedora Core 4 + mencoder (for ending to DVD compliant files). The box is so stable, I find it boring now. So I am thinking of trying transcode also (version 1.0.1). Is anybody using transcode? Or has anybody compared transcode and mencoder? I read about the skip filter in transcode which might help me in the current encoding process I use. Currently I edit in mythfrontend to create cutlist, use a combination of mythtranscode (writing to fifos) and mencoder to get files encoded. But I have seen if I use mencoder without using mythtranscode (I mean directly encoding the same .nuv file, of course without cutlist), the speed is 35-45 fps but ont 23-24 with mythtranscode + mencoder. Any tips/scripts will be welcome. Regards from Vijay Gill ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
Re: [mythtv-users] My Windoze way to make DVDs from PVR-250 recordings, plus a small wish
Let me share my set up too: 1) Record using PVR 350 + mythtTV. 2) Edit out the commercials. MythCommFlag works well for friends episodes (for my wife). For others, I have to do it manually. 3) Encode the programs using mencoder to create mpeg2 (for DVDs). I use KVCD matrices as well. I record at 9000kbps and encode at 900 - 1800 kbps. Quality is superb. With latest CVS version of mencoder able to mux the files with DVD profile I skip demux-remux part. 4) I have written my own front-end to dvdauthor-0.6.11 which uses AVISynth to create animated menus and also has chapter facilty. 5) Finally I burn the VIDEO_TS folder using Nero. To Do (for myself) 1) Add burn facilty within my frontend for dvdauthor. 2) Make it template based for re-using the menu layouts. Re: [mythtv-users] Hauppage 350 .nuv to mpeg-2
Try MPlayer for windows. You will find link from MPlayer's site. ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Will new implementation of pipes in kernel 2.6.11 make any difference?
Hi, I use pvr 350 + mythtranscode + mencoder to encode my recordings to mpeg2 for making my DVDs. If I use mythtranscode (data is piped out to fifo's) then mencoder takes almost double (or more) time to encode the program than when I encode the same .nuv file directly. The only reason why I need mythtranscode is that it helps me in cutting out commercials. Coming to the point. I saw today that there is a big change regarding pipes in kernel 2.6.11 which enhances the speed of applications reading/writing data from/to pipes. Can any one comment on this taking my setup (mentioned above) into account? Re: [mythtv-users] Slightly OT: MythTV as Senior Project?
You could try to fix something which gives problem: When I use mythtranscode + mencoder to encode movies to mpeg2, there is a sudden noise at the beginning of the recording. This can be removed by making the sound coming from mythtranscode to have fade-in effect. This is just a suggestion. [mythtv-users] Has anybody tried AC3 encoding using mencoder during encoding videos?
Hi, I use MythTV + mencoder to record programs and encode to mpeg2 files to author DVDs. The sound I get from my PVR350 is MPEG Layer 2. I wish to encode it to AC3. Has anybody tried this? What about using various audio filters to get just low pass sound in rear channels, and human voice in centre channel from the stereo sound from original file? [mythtv-users] Please reply - Should I de-interlace before encoding to MPEG2 for burning on DVD?
Hi, I had asked this question about 2-3 months ago and got no reply that time. I am still anxious to know about the answer to increase my knowledge. I record programs using MythTV (0.17) + PVR 350. I then encode with mencoder (part of MPlayer). When I encode the programs without de-interlacing, the size of the file is larger than the one encoded with de-interlacing enabled in mencoder. I wish to know that will the files encoded with deinterlacing on be able to be viewed on stand-alone DVD players? At minimum, I have used combination of ptune.pl + mencoder to record programs. ptune.pl comes with ivtv drivers for PVR-350 (find such suitable utility for your card). mencoder can be used just like you are trying to encode the movie(see documentation). I would suggest using lavc as codec for video as it is pretty fast. VJ ___ mythtv-users mailing list mythtv-users@mythtv.org http://mythtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/mythtv-users
[mythtv-users] Should I crop video before encoding to MPEG2?
Hi, I use mythtv + PVR350 to capture the programs and edit them to create cutlists(for removing commercials). Then I use combination of mythtranscode + mencoder to get MPEG2 which I burn on DVDs. Now I have seen that there is a small black border on left and right sides of the image (NOT top and bottom, but left and right). I can remove it by using the crop filter in mencoder. My questions is : Should I do it? Is that border there because of some reason (may be represents some non-displayable area of image, which if I remove, may start eating some portion of my actual program image)?
